Just you wait, within a year or so time, Japan only will get their traditional "International Version" which will include any new features or content, and elsewhere will be left in the dark.“At first we had plans to release the game simultaneously worldwide, so we had the intention to deliver identical version between the regions. When we noticed that we wouldn’t make it, we decided to release the game as fast as possible in the west after its release in Japan,” said Kitase.
“We initially had doubts to add extra content to the western version but then it would have taken the international version more months of delay. We did prepare a DLC but it will arrive a little later in the west.”

Their "traditional" international version is always the same as what we get originally anyways. Their Original release of FF10 lacked dark aeons, it was their internation version that introduced them, Our original version had the dark aeons.
Considering that, I dont see how they'd suddenly start leaving us out of the loop with things like that.
Also as stated, Its more likely now everything will be handled through DLC
Really? Got a source or any idea if it's going to have extra content? I loved FF8 and my gf has a PSP so I'll make her buy itWell I've cancelled my pre-order. I'm a massive FF fan. But the news FF8 is coming to psp this week excites me more than this game after reading about it!
I can't spend £35 on a game when I know for a fact I'm going to be disappointed. Shame.

FF13 versus has sorta piqued my interest - apparently it's quite dark, has an overworld (and I assume that also means shops, villages, sidequests and decent exploration - all the hallmarks of a proper Final Fantasy). That might be worth a look-see as versus seems to be the opposite of 13.
Damn that's cool, thanks for the link. I've got FF7 on there already so I'll have to get FF8Yeah. It will be available on the psn sore tomorrow for download to your ps3 or psp (which ever one takes you fancy.. maybe both lol)

In the same interview in which Toriyama explains the linearity of Final Fantasy XIII, he also mentioned the lack of towns was due to the fact that in producing HD quality graphics it would take far too much time for the developers to create.
Alongside such comments, Yoshinori Kitase also explains that such a problem relates to being unable to currently consider the continual requests for a Final Fantasy 7 remake.
He explains, “This issue is related to whether a Final Fantasy 7 remake will happen or not. It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had. Making graphics will take enormous time.”
The interviewer then asks as to why Final Fantasy XIII has fewer towns compared to previous titles in the story, and whether this relates to seeking a ‘non-stop’ story, to which Toriyama explains “Yes, it is one of the reasons, but more importantly, it is a result of considering HD graphics will be the mainstream. Considering the amount of work to make graphics that deserve HD, it is hard to make towns in the conventional style.”
So, because so much emphasis has been placed on the graphics, other elements have had to take a backseat, such as towns and non-linearity. I don't really get that at all. I'd rather be -doing- cool stuff in an rpg than -watching- cool stuff in an rpg. Not sure why they've gone down this road, unless they want to shed the rpg elements, to make it more action oriented and therefore get more sales.
