A dmpoole tax story -
Back in the mid 90's I received a letter from the Tax saying I had received money and not declared it and I basically went white.
A couple of hours later I rang them and a horrible woman verbally probed me about activities and I admitted to receiving money for my music but it was never enough to pay for my gear.
She said 'We will be the judge of that'

I went gray overnight because I have got a very long history of playing in bands and I didn't know what they had got on me.
I eventually had all my long hair off because it worried me that much I got psoriasis of the scalp.
Anyway, they helped me all the way with my tax returns and accepted what I had submitted but I wasn't happy paying the amount I owed which wasn't actually that much.
I sent the cheque and a few days later had a phone call saying I had omitted to tick a section and if I did I would get £1000 back

About a week later he rang again saying that I hadn't ticked another section and I would get £1200 back

Another week later he rang and said that I had been paying the wrong tax code at work for the last 8 years and to go and see the wages office - that was another £550 back
It is important to know that I had paid too much over the years and the money I had back was actually mine but it was a really nice surprise.
