Considering the i7 920 has 160% of the performance of the Athlon 620, then it's lookin good. :D

Percentage crime ho!

You are misinterpreting the numbers in the worst possible way. If you want to look at it that way then you have to finish the argument, it has "160% of the performance"...."and 256% of the price" <- still lookin' good? ;)

LOL, You're not supposed to notice

My attempt.

At 4ghz these are quite slow still:eek:

Not a knock BTW just an observation.

My i7 920 at stock 2.66ghz beats it

Makes the i7 920 look like value for money in the raw processing stakes

I don't believe the AMD chips have ever been any good at SuperPI, not even back in the A64 days when they were king?

Look at the Chessmark multi threaded benchmark.

They are slow for the money

Thats assuming Hyper threading works though. Most programs are not THAT multi threaded. Benchmarks usually are ( at least modern ones, super pi is only useful for comparing intel architectures in single threaded performance and amd ones but not amd vs intel)

Anyway, its AMD's lower end that makes more sense.

easyrider, I would respectfully ask you too *not* keep posting Off-Topic hardware in this thread, you are welcome to *champion* the i7 920 no problems at all but please refrain from your Off-Topic spamming . . . this is a very simple request, heres a reminder for you just in case you forgot :)

  • INTEL® Core™ i7 920
  • AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620
I think most people will agree, the AMD® chip is very fast for the money

I don't think it's really off topic, merely widening the discussion. :)

I respectfully disagree Burnsy2023, the situation is complex enough for some people just looking at two products (lots of results/data) . . . there is nothing to stop anyone making another thread to "widen the discussion" as you put it, however this is my thread and my discussion so I expect people to either join in my *specific* discussion or go elsewhere . . . it's very easy for someone to create a new thread? . . . is that too much to ask? :)

"What are you thought's about this? . . . do you think the Intel® Core™ i7 is worth a 100%(156%) price premium?"

I was showing the overpricing of Top end AMD products, That Phenom Chip is slow for the money and the 920 is very fast for not a lot more.

OCUK don't even stock the Athlon II 620. Its not a product they offer. So I can't talk about pricing for the product as If i do that would be against the forum rules.

Over what?

Mid range AMD offerings?

A product OCUK don't sell?

If the chip is that good then why not post on the product suggestion forum?

Having owned a 920 for a week now..I can say that this chip is every bit worth its price. Its speed is staggering.

Makes the AMD top end stuff look laughable in comparison.

Intel have done a great job with i7 920. Its a great product with a huge feature set and at a great price.

Maybe you should look at AMD and the pricing of its top end GFX cards instead...£500 +

203 quid on the Brain of the PC is awsome value on every level.

obvioously the i7 is coming out on top super pi was designed for intel architecture and the fact fritz gets higher scores is only cause the i7 uses hyperthreading fritz thinks it has 8 cores.

maybe disable hyperthreading on a 920DO set it at 4GHZ then have a look at fritz results it would be a different story

I paid £130 for my 965 and £130 for my top end Gigabyte mainboard. The same would be like an extra £120 to get an i7 920 and decent mainboard

Why would I disable a core feature of the hardware I purchased?

So its on PAR with the inferior AMD tech?

Do you realise how silly this sounds?:p

BTW its already been done with a 4ghz Phenom II and 4ghz 4 core only 920

The i7 920 is faster by some margin
