bigjimmyauk please read my post above, thanks for your contribution but please do not post anything further in this thread which does not relate to my O.P

pay no attention to easyrider please *unless* he is on-topic! :p

Well its an enthusiast forum and yet he complains when people comapre and post results of the latest technologies?
INTEL® Core™ i7 920 is 2008 tech, it is now 2010, how exactly do you define the term "latest "? :D

and really, after using a laptop for a year you finally got yoursef an uBer premium computer built and all you have done with it is run two synthetic tests and surfed the web, what else are you doing with your 4GHz processor? . . . surely you should be playing some games or get your audio project started? :)

Your a benchmarker mate, go and find some worthy competition and see if you can put OcUK forums on the map with your world record benchmarking attempts!

Meanwhile some of us are comparing the performance difference between these two chips in a *variety* of scenarios . . .

  • INTEL® Core™ i7 920
  • AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620

Just goes to show how good the 920 is. Released in 2008 and pooping all over the 965 AMD flagship chip.

When was the 965 released again? August 09?:p

In fact I have been doing some video editing..Transcoding some 200GB of HD MKV files to my windows home server ready for PS3 streaming.

Batch encoding my MKV's movies that have subtitles.

Playing with ADOBE Media Encoder CS4 and some Film camera deconsruction clips for work

And organising my home studio.

Not really I bought a cheap C0/C1 920;)

I like to bench my gear but TBH this 920 is so damn quick I will run it at 3.6ghz on low volts as at this speed it eats all I have been throwing at it.

Yes I hear, got yourself a nice used bargain, is that the cool running version or? . . . probably a moot point anyway as you have over £100/£200 pounds of water-cooling so you got no worries there!

So would I be right in thinking that your reply to the O.P is no?

"do you think the Intel® Core™ i7 is worth a 100% price premium?"

If you been using a laptop for the past year I can imagine your new build must be a huge improvement! :D . . . look forward to your future results and thanks for finally giving me your answer to my O.P!

The C0/C1's are bargains even when running stock.

Yes I think the 920 is worth its £204 completely. So don't be putting words in my mouth.Thank you very much.

Already posted this in this thread:

Having owned a 920 for a week now..I can say that this chip is every bit worth its price. Its speed is staggering.

Makes the AMD top end stuff look laughable in comparison.

Intel have done a great job with i7 920. Its a great product with a huge feature set and at a great price.

Thats my answer to the OP:cool:

I wouldn't dream of it, they are your words . . . if you thought it was worth it's price then why did you wait over a year to buy it? :D

which price is that? . . . the planet earth price or the easyrider price?

which price are you referring too? :D . . . the price you paid or the price everyone else has to pay?

Topic Reminder:

  • INTEL® Core™ i7 920
  • AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620
  • Price/Performance Ratio
No other hardware please good Sirs! . . . much respects to all! :)

I didn't need a PC

As said 204 is a great price for the Brain of the PC. GFX cards are 500+ from AMD....Do you know why they charge this premium wayne?

Becasue they can as its the fastest GFX card

which price are you referring too? :D . . . the price you paid or the price everyone else has to pay?

Well I did just say 204 and you quoted it.

BTW its not just INTEL charging top $ for hardware AMD are fleecing their customers too.

I rest my case:D;)

apart from your laptop and LGA775 system of course . . . so i think what you are saying is that you been without a powerful workstation for over a year, no problems, now you have decided you want to get back into your benchmarking again so you spent a week or so reading two reviews and you were so impressed with the 13 month old Core i7 and it's price was so worth it instead of buying it you hunted out an old beta version of the chip to save money?

As said 204 is a great price for the Brain of the PC.
of course? that's why you bought a beta/release stepping 14 months after it was released to save yourself some money . . . surely if you thought it was worth £200 quid odd you would have bought it no? . . . snapped it up at its bargain price! . . the latest Do stepping of course i.e the latest of the oldest tech! ;)

Well I did just say 204 and you quoted it.
clearly but you are saying one thing and doing another, makes no sense but what else can we expect . . . :D

If there a problem with your reading easyrider? . . . I asked you simply and politely to not keep *spamming* this thread with your off topic randomness? . . .you just can't help yourself can you! :p . . . I'm not sure what a graphics card has to do with this CPU comparison thread but if you feel strongly about it I suggest you find the graphics card forum and make a thread! :)

I rest my case:D;)
I think your in the wrong forum my friend?

No I bought the 920 C0/C1 as a transitory chip for 930 coming end of FEB/March :D;)

Like I have said...I have been doing loads of encoding of late know having a WHS installed in my cinema room.

Well I was buying a D0 at 204 from OCUK but thought with the 930 so close o release I might aswell buy one of them for the higher multi.

This 920 is throw away and someone will get a bargain when I shift it on for a 930..If I choose to purcahse one.

clearly but you are saying one thing and doing another, makes no sense but what else can we expect . . . :D

No I bought i7 and its a revsion C0/C1 not a beta chip as you put it

From your OP

With a record sales forecast predicted this first quarter I can see why Paul is happy but . . . if you want cheaper Intel® products or design that you feel hits the spot then it's time to start buying AMD® . . . their products are better than you realise!

Is it? Some of their hardware is the most expensive

Help get him out my thread Tute! . . . where can he go? . . . is there any space in the Hard Drive section! :p

Fact is I have destroyed your argument on every level.

You have no counter attack as this thread has been nonsense from the start :p

Now insults reniforce this notion.

You know when insults fly....It means I have won the arguement and no one has anything to say in a responce.

So insult a way.

Gives me a warm glow.:D:cool:
