Which performance estate under £10k?

You've been making the most sense of all really Fox, weather anyone has been paying any attention though is another matter entirely.

except the runing costs and 30mpg boxes

The runing costs are cheap .... for the performance they offer. If you start comparing the running costs with much slower cars, like a peugeot 406, then yes the vectra is going to start looking expensive to run.

Also, you wont get more than 25mpg unless on a motorway run. Only thing that made me suggest it was the "Performance estate" title and the fact he said in the OP he'd had an Astra VXR before and looked at the Zafira VXR.

Seriously, i dont think the OP is after what we would usually call "fast" He's just after something thats not going to be horrendously slow.
Fair point on the mpg front. What did you get in yours? From the costs you listed in your borked clutch thread, the only cost over and above an A4 that I could see was the tax.

OP doesn't know what he wants as shown by the suggestion that a 407 would be acceptable followed shortly after by an LPG coverted Range Rover and a budget of £10k that he doesnt want to spend. This thread may as well have been titled, "talk about cars".

I'd go for a mondy St TDCi estate. Quick enough, and if the boot size on the hatch is anything to go by, you should have enough room.

Well i looked at a Zafira VXR before, and who ever said there small in the boot you need to check again! There massive. The extra seats fold down, plus the rear seat section also slides forward. Bags of room, and bags of head space. The winner so far.

How is a Zafira the answer to this thread. I thought that at a push and a pinch, if you absolutely wanted a performance estate (as per thread title) that the Vectra VXR, or indeed the Mondy ST/STTDCI might be worthwhile as an alternative to an A4, but a Zafira!?

Also, you mean "they're" not "there".

There's about the same room in the back as an astra estate without the seats pushed forward. With them forward they're pretty much useless as seats. A Mondeo estate for example has a far bigger useable space as it's much longer even though the nominal capacity is smaller as the additional height in the Zafira is very rarely used.

Wow, it's usually the rest of motors who spec something completely unlike what the op asked for, this time he's done it himself!

Performance estate with >30mpg = Vauxhall people carrier with <30mpg

I like the way that "big enough boot" actually involves moving and removing seats.

Just get a car that is big enough to be useable AND has a boot that is the correct size.

lol, why so much hate for the vaux?

I've no hate for Vauhalls (I've owned 3) but mpv's are pretty pointless unless you want to carry more than 5 people, with no luggage, and really dislike anyone who'll be sat in the rear most seats. A similar sized estate will generally offer more usable space, drive a lot better, use less fuel and look better.

Well believe it or not, you all have helped. Now if i decide to drop the budget to 7k, what do you think the options are now? Same choices, but just older and higher millage?
