I used to play MW2 fine with about 60FPS, but the last few days I have been getting really poor FPS as low as 12! I am playing it on automatic settings, my GFX is not underpowered (9800GTX) and I have 4Gb RAM and 100GB+ free on my HDD.

When I ran resource monitor while playing, I noticed that my HDD usage was almost always 100%!! Is there any way to stop this?

Have a look at the processes tab in task manager. You probably have something running that is using a high % of your CPU

I think I have just fixed the main issue! A few days ago I swapped my second stick of RAM to the third slot to make it work in duel channel (forgot all about DC when I built my system!). Turns out my Mobo is different to normal ones and requires slot 1+2 to be in duel channel- will test this out later!

If you ran in single channel mode it wouldn't have much of an effect in performance, especially in games. You would be hard pushed to tell the difference without any kind of benchmark.

Gundog, sorry to rape your thread, but can you tell me how you know your FPS in MW2? I use to have it displayed in COD4 in the top corner but with lack of console in MW2, I don't know?

I use xFire, its great, and you can record on it. The reason I needed such a reply is that I am a gameplay commentator with a fanbase of about 200. The main problem was when I was recording.

With the memory in duel channel it was fine again! Over 80FPS while recording! The recording process obviously required a fair amount of RAM!

BTW, how does duel channel work? I realise they work together in some way, but how exactly does it increase speed?
