How Did You Get Into Your Job?

Part time work when at school by walking into McDonalds and M&S. Got some good placements at uni through sheer perseverance. Got talent spotted for some special effects work when I graduated but the pay was poor. Mini economic slump after I graduated and went self employed for a number of years. Returned to employment through a friend but chose wrong career. Bummed about for a year, sent in literally nearly a hundred applications throughout recession laden 2009, worked with a friend for a bit, landed a paid research doctorate in a company with a job at the end when I broadened my horizons and heavily tweaked my CV.

Attended open day
Filled out competency assessment forms online
Passed
Attended 'Day 1' assessment centre (interview, 4 roleplays, maths and English exam)
Passed
Attended 'Day 2' assessment centre (fitness and medical exam)
Passed
Passed vetting, reference, and security checks

Offered training start date. :)

Passed all 4 exams in training and here I am.

My current boss rang me at my old workplace (printers) as i used to design/print their client tenders
His job offering (leap of faith) words were "we know you know how to build a computer or 2....come and look after our I.T."
So i did. At that time a 30 user network with only 1 server. I'd never touched a server in my life. We now have 6 servers and over 60 users and i'm quite cushy in my little I.T. dungeon now. :)
I respect my boss due to his 'leap of faith' in offering the job to me.

Didn't do great at school or uni, saw job in the paper after leaving uni and went for it, got it.

Second job saw ad on a job site, went for it, got it.

The delights of being put into foster care when I was 8. Moving to the point of GCSE exams (some 30+ homes and 10 or 11 schools later). Failed almost everything as everyone gave up (special needs school for ya).
BTEC National Diploma, failed by walking out the college due to constant harassment.
Sales Assistant job. Lasted a whole 3 months before my condition got the better of me.
NVQ level 2 in IT.
NVQ level 3 in IT failed due to life going so far off the rails you wouldn't believe me if I accounted it.
Few basic training courses and the last 2 social services required moves before the end of 15 years of hell.
Moved to the states with the prospect of starting a life for myself over there.... BIG ****ing mistake!.
Now stuck living with my dad who is a royal PITA with no way out.

Did passably at school and university (LLB Law) without unduly stretching myself then temped for a couple of years while looking for a graduate job or indeed any job that I wanted to do then rather randomly applied for a trainee accountants position despite having little knowledge of accountancy - passed the various online tests and assessment centre so here I am. It took almost a year between application and starting the job, partly due to the security clearance required and partly to get the other trainees starting at the same time.
