Nokia N900

Got my N900 today, and its a hell of a lot different from my N95. Going to take some getting used to.

I transfered some xvids over to it hoping it would play but I was told it 'doesn't recognize the audio codecs'. But first impressions of it are very good.

download extra codec from it, find it @ maemo.org

video play back is fine for me on bbc news/football, youtube, megavideos (great in full screen)

iplayer via website not watchable too much fsp drop.

love the fone so far, waiting for software update to fix few issues and more features

CPW seems to be offering a very nice deal at the minute

£50 for the phone
£25 p/m on a 2 year contract

Sorted the battery issue. 1st, buy another (genuine) Nokia battery, £11 off the bay and 2nd buy a plug in battery charger, from the same location. Works a treat, just carry a spare, both can be charged overnight or at random points.

You can double the battery life by carrying 2 batteries? Who'd have thought?

Hehe, yup, I am working on trebling the battery life...am fairly sure I have an idea.

In all seriousness, it works and 2 batteries is sufficient, plus the charger is easier to fold away as well.

I know you can easily add ur own but thought they could be better.

I quite like them - especially the sound the N900 makes when the battery is low -sounds like its in mourning!

Some of the sounds are ok, more than a couple make you think *wtf thats ment to be a ring tone?*

They should've had a lot more 'basic' tones, it's not like it's short on memory... lol

i'm returning my n900 for a replacement!!!!

the keyboard surround near "xcvb" has a big gap and when i press buttons the surround seems to come up.

I went to vodafone store and i spoke to some i know and his phone had the same gap but was not bad as mine.

check your phone guys. look for the keys xcvb and just below it is the surround.

Fine here too.

Just thinking earlier, mine has held up to the abuse of being unprotected in my pocket remarkably well, infact it's not scratched at all. It likes being restarted after updates, just keeps things running smoothly but playing battery swap means it doesn get turned off and on a fair bit.

So, any new 'must have' apps about?

Also loving 'Petrovich' (lets you send *anything* over bluetooth)

'FM Radio' is quite good, pain having to use the headphones as an antenna tho...

Also use 'Flashlight' more than i'd thought (using the flash as a torch) very handy when you're down behind a desk trying to read a m*crosoft sticker

Also got a little widget that shows cpu useage and memory useage... More of a gimmick than actually useful

Anybody fancy sharing how to use emulators please?
I have downloaded VGB (GameBoy emulator) and i have downloaded a couple of GameBoy game ROM's when when i open VGB and try to select the file (tetris) it doesn't show up. I have it saved both as the .zip file and the expanded file but neither are visable when opening via VGB

i also have this but it's barely noticable so i cba taking it back

got my replacement without any notice....made driver wait while i deleted stuff.

this one is much better, slide feels stiffer which i like but slide seems to be tiny more downwards....(i think i'm being picky here) lol

backup tool is fantastic restored the phone almost exactly like previous one ( decided not to install few apps i had before)
