My first veggie sushi attempt - nom nom nom :)

It was quite easy to make it but it was my first time so I didn't know I had to put knife in water before cutting sushi hence it went flat in some places as the rice is well sticky :)

Ingredients: sushi rice, nori (sewed sheets), rice vinegar, wasabi, soy sauce, pickled ginger.
Filling: cucumber and red pepper, next time I'll make some with avocado too.

Isn't sushi fish?

[edit]Apparently not. Vinegar rice topped with stuff. Never knew that.

Still not my bag, but beef or pork or chicken would be good.

In case you didn't know where to get sushi ingredients, I bought everything including bamboo sushi rolling mat from Tesco Extra at the Specialties section.

That looks pretty good!
A bit too many of the cucumber ones for my liking, although if I was making my own I'd probably make 20 of the same too :p

How about some home-made raw sushi instead (raw as in nothing is cooked, so no rice):

That's made with dehydrated Nori sheets (not toasted) and riced parsnip - with a wasabi aioli, using Tamari rather than Soy Sauce.

Could throw in a bit of soya or tofu coated in some wasabi perhaps.

Looks nice though im a lover of sushi so being a veggi i haven't had any since, though my last one was at yo! sushi so that kind of helps. :D

Meat free cheatin do some lovey spicy chorizo chunks, that would work quite well imo.

Did you follow a particular recipe for the sushi rice? I've been experimenting with various combinations of rice vinegar, sugar, salt and even using pre-made sushi vinegar but I'm yet to find the 'perfect' mix.

I fallowed the instructions on the box as how much water to add and how long to cook it for, rice was cooked perfectly imo but it had different consistency than a normal rice. Then I mixed it with 3 table spoons of rice vinegar (250grams of rice). It really was hard to mix it at this point, the rice was really sticky like covered in some sort of glue :D, I didn't however add any sugar but I've read somewhere now to add 1 table spoon of sugar.

Oh thats a plan for this weekend for a starter. Can you type up the method?

To be honest I checked few videos on youtube first then just used google to find how to make veggie sushi and most of the time there was something done in different way so I just used all ingredients I had and fallowed a mixture of "how to make sushi videos and guides".

I know that I need to work on the filling side now to make my sushi more exciting and more tasty.

Thanks for the tips, apatia!

Isn't that Maki actually? Since it's rolled?

Maki with fish is lovely, but I can only manage it as a starter. Tried having a whole meal at a sushi restaurant once and I struggled since I found the raw fish so rich.
