Diet drinks

Coke is manky tbh.
Diet coke is OK but still a bit bland.
Coke Zero is even worse than normal coke.

Pepsi max wins!

Pepsi max for me too, it just tastes good and not like crappy diet coke, good mixer for bourbon/vodka too.

Not so good ingredients as follows

Sweeters - Aspartame, Acesulfame K,
Phosphoric Acid
Preservatives - Sodium Benzoate
And also contains a source of Phenylalanine

Who really cares what they have in them, if you dont drink too many of them and eat heathily you'll be just fiiiine, and by the time (if) it does any damage to you they'll have a cure (just look how far medicine has come in 30 years and im sure its going to progress faster due to technology exponentially progressing)

SO boo hoo to all you diet haters out there :P

Pepsi Max is the only diet drink that tastes better than the regular version. In fact it's the only diet drink that doesn't taste like somebody's spit into a puddle. Lovely stuff.

It's like going to McDonalds and buying a salad. Ignoring the fact that they're loaded full of sugar and crap, I'm not going to McDonalds for a wholesome meal. I'm going because it's greasy and disgusting.

Same reason I drink Pepsi, not because it's refreshing and nutritious. But because it tastes good and is bad.

I don't mind diet coke really - although you're right, pepsi max is delicious. Incidentally, what's with all the e-number hatred? I thought all they did was make you slightly hyperactive ( depending on tolerance of course ). Oh, and its a definite no-go for people with heart problems. But apart from that ( admittedly small ) segment of people, i still don't see why " fat coke " exists. Especially as the general consensus is that it tastes like syrup. :D

99/100 "diet" drinks are WORSE for you than the original... sugar isn't that bad for you at all aslong as you live a semi-active lifestyle and consume it in moderation... much less harmful than many of the chemicals they put in food/drink these days.

Consuming 500ml or more daily of a drink containing a combination of those kinda chemicals, specially aspartame is very bad for you... even if you don't suffer from the worst possible side effects like tumours, dementia, etc. with continued use you can become depressed, subject to mood swings, fatigued and lots of general health complaints.

EDIT: Should say people have a varied sensitivity to it - some can consume it for years and years with no apparent side effects - others after a couple of weeks/months are suffering a variety of ailments.

Because some people don't like the side effects of the artificial sweeteners (for example many are carcinogenic).

Pick your poison. Death from cancer or death from obesity. I'll stick to water.

Do you guys really believe everything in the daily mail?

As for the original question, some people prefer the original taste, I for one would prefer no sugar and no caffine.

Do you actually have a link to solid scientific study (not Wikipedia) that proves this?

I'm actually very interested in it, as you do find the majority of people (as can even be seen in this thread) have an ingrained demonisation of sweeteners such as Aspartame as some kind of "drink this and you'll die!" terror -- similar to the public head-knocking over "E numbers", when they don't understand that just because something is listed as an E number doesn't mean it's harmful; and those that ARE harmful are generally only problematic to people with certain existing conditions.

Not daily mail it's common knowledge least i thought it was take aspartame do you know it's part wood alcohol not to mention many other additives, regan or nixon can't remember was known to slip it past fda approval despite their refusing it, im sure a backhander was handed out.

If you sniff about there's plenty to find so the case is pick your poison as to me it is.

For instance obesity, all those gases do a nice job of stretching your gut making you feel more hungry thus pushing you to eat/drink more till satiety.

Sure it's a nice drink but i stay far away from the things and am now much better for it.

Here we go first link thrown up by google.

Totally agree. I love my chemicals. But not as much as I love kicking hippies in the balls.

YOU WILL STILL DIE no matter how healthy you are. So may as well enjoy it.

I'd rather be beaten to death than drink Diet Coke.
Funny you should say that, just today I was discussing with a friend how droll such statements are.

He said he would rather masturbate with a handful of razor blades than sleep with a certain woman. I merely pointed out he really wouldn't. Just like you would rather drink urine, sorry, diet coke, than be beaten to death.

:)

Regular is da bomb! The other variations foam in your mouth and you could be mistaken for having rabies.

Reproducable personal experience... I've always had a bad reaction to artifical colors (makes me hyperactive, etc.) anyhow so its maybe not suprising I guess I'd be sensitive to artifical sweetners, etc. also.

If I drink 1-2 bottles of something like lucozade (aspartame) a day after a couple of months or so I start to get headaches, severe depression, dizzy spells, overactive bladder, etc. etc. goes away if I stop consuming anything with aspartame in.
