How many people are still on XP? I am, but it think it is starting to show its age now and anyway I fancy I nice fresh windows install and being able to use AA with newer games (direct x 10 e.t.c.).

Thing is, I have a copy of windows vista 64 - bit as i bought it when it first came out but got fed up with it not working with anything (nvidia driver stopped working....). Should i just go with this or go the whole hog and buy windows 7? I mean, is Windows 7 definately better than Vista for games?

From a personal POV I think it is, it seems to use less overall resources than windows vista (This is coming from Vista home 32 to 7 Ultimate 64)

I think it's better designed also..

A yes from me :)

I'd get 7 tbh. For above reasons, better performance and efficiency all round.. Having no trouble gaming with it myself, it's a pleasure to use.

7 definitely uses less memory and runs better.

Also can be had rather cheap especially if you're a student.

Using Windows 7 here

I was using vista 64bit before windows 7 and w7 seems far better...

(Plus with vista you need to spend about 2 hours just installing the SP1 & SP2 packs with every format )

Windows 7 x64 all the way...remove XP, don't bother with Vista...trust me you'll notice the difference right away :D

Win 7 x64 it is then. :)

this isnt entirely relevant to this forum but as i own genuine copied of xp and vista can i just buy the retail upgrade edition and do a fresh install?

Windows 7 X64 (Ultimate) is a dream to use, came from using vista 64 bit. Did an install of xp recently and for the love of god the drivers...ach, windows 7 is great for drivers, everything just works I have found and it requires minimal effort.

You can still get the full retail version of windows 7 which comes with 32bit & 64bit discs for about £80..;)

if you were buying a new OS then Windows 7, but considering you have vista I would stay with Vista. The whole nvidia driver display problem was resolved within first 6 months after launch. I haven't had any problem playing any game, new or old. I wouldnt worry about Vista being a hog since you have 4gb of ram it won't be a problem

I found it just generally slower though and I was running it with 4GB ram, it wasn't as responsive and just didn't feel as complete.
