All you that have said British, I hope when/if we join the EU, you'll change it to European, as it amounts too pretty much the same statement when it's all said and done.

We tracked our ancestry back to 15th century Hungary, then on to Italy the early 1600's, took the road North to Germany late 1600's, then around the 17th century we made a stop in Scotland, some escaped down South to England where we've pretty much been the past 300+ years. This generation seen everyone leave Britain to continue the family line in America, Australia, Canada and Sweden. I myself are also heading back into Euro mainland at some point next year.

So exactly what nationality should I be with a father from Nothern Ireland and a mother who is half Welsh, quarter English and quarter Scottish? Not to mention we have been members of the EU for years.

Get that chip off your shoulder taffy and check the nationality on your passport.

Change your sig as well, go and support Swansea or even better a real Welsh football team if you're such a proud Welshman. :D

Nationality would be what is stated on your passport, so I am guessing "British Citizen" ?

Nationality and Ethnicity tends to be a touchy subject to difference between.

I mean in my case, my parents are both Chinese, yet they were born in Vietnam so that makes them a Vietnamese National, then they immigrated here to England and became British citizens, I was born here, so that makes me British even though my ethnicity is not.

I'd instinctively class myself as Scottish first then British afterwards. I'm happy to be Scottish but don't hold much for believing that nationality is a good measure to judge someone by.

It isn't really that simple though. As the various nationalist movements show and the numerous replies in this thread. As a legal term, yes, my nationality is British, but as a more ideological term, it is a lot harder to pin point. My question however was more in response to Randell Floyd's ill informed ranting.

Well this thread has grown very quickly. So far we can see that we have a massive english majority , not suprising really and we have more scottish people on here than welsh+irish togethor . Also goes to show that Britain is hugely diverse with a lot of people being foreign to.

Born in England, spent most of my time in Scotland.

British first, English second.

In terms of sport, I support England but want Scotland to do well (insofar as they do not trump England).
