Welsh roads. Isn't it.

Loook great they do.

Scotland still has the best roads I have ever driven on. First thing I do when I go back home, straight off the Motorway and take the long way home :D

Rather embarassingly I have yet to drive the roads of North Wales.. despite only living a few miles from Wrexham :o

A525 to Ruthin, down the Pass, would be a good start ;)

Oh please please please copy me in on that email. I'd love to drive those roads. :D

Will do.

I wonder what brought this thread on :p

They do look like some fantastic roads but I haven't driven them so all I can do is say how good Northern England is :D

:p There are some really excellent roads up North, plenty of evo photos from them as well. Buttertubs is a great leveller and really suits the little terrier cars. I think Wales (north in particular) has an advantage in the sheer number of great roads leading on to one another though. Definitely worth a trip.

Those roads do look awesome.

Fett - how do you find driving on those roads with your GTR? Do you generally know where the police hotspots are, or are the roads so twisty that you can have fun on them at sensible speeds in it?

Think you would love it here. I'm shattered so I'll answer properly tomorrow.

Even better driven in a Rapid Response Vehicle with the lights going :p , the only time I get too over take exotic cars at any!

Used to drive them regularly in the ITR, more so in the off peak season, the vRS isn't quite the same fun, a little MX-5 with some extra power would be awesome for cheap fun!

In the third multi frame compilation shot, that Mini Cooper parked up by the hairpin - I'd recognise that bit of tarmac anywhere :D Tro Cwcw on the A4069, which starts about half a mile from my old house.

Really miss those roads!

Missed that shot... I recognise it too :D

Stunning roads around there. Simply stunning :)

I drive on quite a few of those roads reguarly, surprised i've never seen Fett out there to be honest  just so many good ones! and as Fett says they all lead onto each other :D

Look out for an 04 Blue DC5 Integra Type R when any of you are up :p

Ahhh I think we took a similar route down the A525 back into Shropshire last year.

Epic Drive was Epic.

I know a couple roads heading up from Cardiff to and through the Brecon national park but you really dont want to ever read the road wrong, quite a few young drivers come off worse every year and thats despite being familiar with the road

Arr Betws-y-coed, one of my favourite places in the World! :)

Myself & a couple of mates headed over four weeks ago, literally just after the snow was beginning to shift, which was a bit mad but we fancied a blast!

We left the Midlands at 08:00 am & returned a sniff over twelve hours later.
The Horseshoe Pass (awesome!), Evo Triangle (phenomenal!) & Llanberis Pass (no traffic!) all absolutely magical roads & without doubt the greatest collective of roads in the UK to pedal (bar North Scooootland).

From a bikers point of view, can't disagree about the roads in Wales they are awesome, but the experience is ruined by the pathetic antics of the traffic nazi's of Brunstrom and company

Take the bike up there all the time, but be warned the Police helicopter also patrols those roads and I have seen them land in a field to "pull" speeders a couple of times.

I've driven some of the roads pictured, absolutely sublime around there. Watch out for every single dirty trick in the book to catch you speeding though - bikes in hedges with lasers, helicopters, planes etc etc.

Gorgeous roads, pity you have people like Brunstrom to go with them.

Brunstrom is gone, he went last year. I know he got a lot of bad press as did North Wales police in regards to speeding but as someone who has lived here for close on 20 years, it is completely overblown. We have very few fixed cameras, Arrive Alive vans that are regular as clockwork and no way near enough police to effectively traffic all the roads. I don't tend to hang around and in the last 10 years, I've only managed 6 points. The visitors get pinched because they hit the obvious routes on sunny days...fish in a barrel. I have never seen a helicopter land to issue a ticket (I've heard it once as a rumour) and I've never seen a helicopter on traffic duty except for the A55 twice. They are massively expensive things to keep in the air, the same for planes. I wouldn't recommend anybody coming to North Wales if I thought there would be a good chance of points. If it's as bad as people make out, why on earth do magazines, forum meets and individuals charge up here with the fastest, loudest cars on the road?

I'm in the process of moving to a new house just outside of Denbigh so I would be pretty interested to know where these roads are! I've found some good ones but I've not come across these yet.

You are in luck. You have the evo triangle on your doorstep. Head up the A543, don't turn right for Llansannon. Stay on the road, small reservoir on your left, turn left just after. This is the triangle apex. Head down the B4501 towards Cerrig (you'll recongnise some of the pics from above, stunning road). At Cerring, turn right on to the A5. Gets fast, watch out for vans on the weekend. Follow the A5 until just before Pentrfoelas where you turn right on to the A543, we call it the Moors road. Starts narrow and then opens up with great visibility, watch for sheep. You'll come to the Sportsmans and you are pretty much back at the apex.

This is the most obvious one to try first, clockwise or ccw is up to you. In truth, the triangle is fantastic but there are some better routes out there and faster roads with less traffic. Enjoy.

I'm spoiled really. I doubt I would keep the GT-R if I didn't have these roads around me. I've spent a lot of time driving and staying down south recently and it's an eye-opener. It had to go in for a fluid change after an over zealous track day in September and I didn't have the time to get it back up to Middlehursts. I had read good things about Westover in Bournemouth so drove over taking in the New Forest. Probably the worst journey I've had in the car and I don't think I ever broke 50mph. It felt totally constrained on narrow roads, surface was everywhere, traffic from a nightmare etc. I probably took the wrong route but just that experience alone makes me appreciate how special the roads are around here.

I see comments like "whats the point in having a fast car these days?" Doddlers, heavy traffic, speed cameras, poor road surfaces etc. This will sound slightly ridiculous if you take this as a hard and fast rule, but those problems don't really plague the roads up here. I was looking for a video of the A4212 and saw this. Just a normal drive, normal day, seems a normal car (with a poor taste in music). This is the sort of traffic you have to deal with...

So as far as I'm concerned, there is plenty of life left in owning a fast car, around here at any rate. Regarding sensible speeds, it depends on your car, its compentency, your self-restraint and how well you know the roads. Your M3 would thrive on the Trawsfynydd roads. They are in some of the pictures above and some of my favourites. They will make a scoob sing for its supper at 90mph, whereas the GT-R won't break a sweat, so absurd speed does happen from time to time (especially after a good few pints) but there are plenty of other routes for the real twisty stuff. You really do have a wide choice.

Bit too far south for me to visit regulary but there are a ton of roads around there that are fantastic without the yumps like the B4520 and the B4560. Need to go down again soon.

I think I've been spotted twice by people from this forum. One guy even remembered the corner, I love this...

I'll give you a wave if I see you when I'm back.:)

The B5284 is fun, about 8 miles of very fun Lakes B road.

Cheers, having a look.

I used to live in Betws.

Really nice choice of cars to bring to North Wales. That's the tip of Llyn Peris I reckon.

Love north wales. Go camping in Betws every year. The roads and brilliant and with most being 60mph roads you don't need to be too naughty to enjoy them :)

Ditto, except staying at the place with the not-true story of that dog that is dead... I forget the name of the place. I went once on the bike and once in the car. Bike = fun, car = annoying! Maybe I need a faster car :/

I have the same picture as one of those (wales3.jpg, top right) only featuring my car and during a heatwave in the summer...awesome times.

Shame its only a phone pic.

Tis true, i think they even went as far as having a scamera in the back of a horse box at one point ?

As far as I know, nothing came of that and it was dropped and no points/fines were ever issued. I'm not defending the scumbags but there are hidden cams all over the UK, the horsebox was just particulary nasty and stupid.

When the weather is good, the bikes are out in force and are always up for a laugh. If you want a hoon with them, head to Spinnakers (old Dil's Diner) or the Ponderosa. If you are not having fun in a car, it's not the car, you're just doing it wrong :D Come in a GT-R and the locals will think Galactus has landed to claim their Earth women.

Those that asked for the road/routes, you have mail.

Thanks for the email

As i stated in it we should get a day/weekend in summer organised so we can go drive them all like the driving gods we are :p

I have a picture somewhere of my Cupra parked inthe exact same spot (albeit the other way around - what fun that was thanks to the holes).

Fantastic road as well. Watching a M5 powerslide around the hairpin was interesting (the car coming the other way wasn't too impressed though :o:p)

EDIT: Found it..

Cupra3-1.jpg

EVO Triangle is also great although the road back towards Betws Y Coed is quite tight.

EDIT2 - The route up over Snowdon and down the other side is pretty nice as well, as is the A4212 towards Bala (off of the A470 IIRC).

Follow that hairpin down the hill for about 60 metres and there's a switchback hairpin in the other direction - now THAT is a good road (you can just see it trailing off into the distance in that pic)

The A4069 is where they filmed most of the Lancia feature in a recent top gear.
