Your Satnav..

My Jag switched the night setting on automatically with the headlights, which could be annoying if it was daylight but foggy or dull or raining etc, then the info display was too dim to see properly by daylight, thus I had to disable the option in the menu ...but if I left it off I'd get blinded at night by the display :p

The BMW, far less distracting, as all I have is a few soft orange lights now. Although I think I'll be buying an aftermarket satnav now, probably a Tomtom One or something.

I never notice the status of other peoples sat navs.
To busy looking at whats going on with important things on the road, like distance between me and the car in front, other road users in general, road signs, traffic lights, that kind of thing.

Have you ever thought that some people might be left handed.. :p

and therefore have a preference to looking to their left at the satnav?

I think he means right in the middle of their line of sight. I saw a few yesturday like that, they had the satnav directly infront of their head at eye level.

It's fun people watching.

I have mine normally sat on the passenger seat or a cubbyhole by the gear stick, I just use it for verbal directions, rather than using the images...so no, I will not change it to Night Mode when driving at night.

Maybe if TomTom didn't use the genius colour scheme of all roads shown in green with your route shown in a slightly different shade of green people would be more inclined to use it?

There are multiple downloadable night modes for tomtom, try "yellow road at night" or "Laguna II", clear, easy to read, none of that all roads green, your route greener malarky.

I use maps and my interior light is broken.

Since I also don't have a clock any more (it was in the factory fit radio) it means I can't see what the time is unless I'm being tailgated by someone with their brights on. Which fortunately happens quite often when you own a Chysler Neon.

It doesn't bother me personally nor does what other people do or do not do with satnav distract me in anyway - but its a distraction for the person driving.

My TomTom One had about five different colour schemes for night mode from factory...

The default was this.

You'd have to be either colourblind or simple not to be able to tell the difference between route and other road.

My Garmin flicks over and I never even notice, I think it changes about 8.00 and in winter it's dark before then and it doesn't distract me even in the slightest.

Maybe when you drive but not for me, if such little things distract you maybe you shouldn't really be driving.

Which is a reply you would give if someone else started this thread or one similar.
