Hi,

At the moment I have the original 20gb non-hdmi 360. Temtped to trade it in for the elite and paid the extra.

Just wondering though, can I plug the HDMI directly into my amp which will cover both audio and picture ? Assume I won't need to use the spdif cable anymore ?

Thanks,

It depends if you want 5.1 sound or not.

You will still need to use the optical cable if you want 5.1 as the Xbox won't send surround over HDMI :(

Really? Never knew that! Only bought my Onyko 607 yesterday and the speakers haven't arrived yet so I haven't really had a chance to test it, that sucks :S

360 does send 5.1 over Hdmi..

The Xbox 360 HDMI Cable , included with the Xbox 360 Elite system or sold separately, enables a single cable to deliver HD video (up to 1080p) and multichannel surround sound to a TV or an audio/video surround receiver.

Hmm, I've never managed to get anything other than 2 channel, and that's from using a previous Denon amp, and now a Yamaha amp. I'll have to go and have another look!
