Lately, I havent had the motivation to finish any games.

Even if the game interests me, and I've enjoyed playing it I will switch it off 1 day, then not have the motivation to pick it back up. I just lose interest and it will sit unfinished :(

Examples
Modern Warfare 2 SP.. got half way and put it down.
Assassins Creed 2.. got to the carnival scene and just stopped.

Worryingly, I also have games in my collection that I know I will never get around to playing such as Dead Space. It's not that I don't want to, but I bought it in the Christmas/January 2008 sales and never got around to it.

Another example is Uncharted 2. I loved the first, and had the second for Christmas 2009 yet I have no motivation to open it and start playing for fear it will get abandoned in the same way as the other games.

Anyone else the same?

Sometimes I do that but in the end I find I have a Sunday where I'm not doing anything and I just play through them :p

Just one thing I need you to promise me...
Finish the Modern Warfare 2 Single Player Campaign! You're seriously missing out if you don't :p

You're speaking to the world's worst 'game finisher' right now.... I seldom ever finish games. I'm trying to finish Bioshock, Mass Effect, GTA:IV, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Prototype, Borderlands and Left 4 Dead 2, but just don't.

One reason is that I don't have much free time, and when I do, I have stuff I prefer to do than gaming, but even if I played games more, I wouldn't finish them. :p

Regardless of all of this though, as Marky has said, FINISH MODERN WARFARE 2! It's the bee's knees, honestly. If you've completed the Gulag mission, then I find it hard to believe that you've been able to stop playing it. Although, the Rangers missions did let it down a little, similar to the first Modern Warfare.

I got to the gulag and stopped haha!

It's the whole "want" mentality.. I want the new games coming out, but I don't want to abandon the games I have. I need about 3 days uninterrupted to finish them and start afresh.

I massively suck at completing games. Managed to finish Lego Batman and Arkham Asylum at the weekend, powered through both of those!

I really prefer MP games so SP is a struggle for me, got loads of games I need to start playing let alone complete!

Agreed! Frankly, if they had made it all British missions, it'd be perfect :p
That would be awesome. The SAS/141 missions were so much more unique, and each one required different tactics, rather than just run and gun. They had cut scenes as well which made them more tense and emotional, as well. ARGAHghah Mordern Warfare 3 please. :D

Did you complete the Gulag? If not, GO AND DO IT RIGHT THIS SECOND NOW.

EDIT: Also, the Modern Warfare games are ideal for people like me and you that don't really complete games, as they're so short and sweet. I think of them as a regular length game with all the filler taken out. But if you can't complete a Modern Warfare game, then there isn't much hope. :p

Have the motivation for games these days, but little time for some reason. All I am currently attempting to finish are God of War collection and Mass Effect 2, while playing some Star Trek Online with the other half.

Am finding I am becoming more particular about the games I even try and pick up. Last couple of years, I would play most things. I am now finding myself moving more towards just RPG's. In the past I have been mostly an FPS person.

I like playing through a good story, so things like Bayonetta, which I would have picked up before, won't even consider until there's a rainy day and I have nothing else to do and nothing else to play.

There are too many games around these days to try and play everything (unless you have no job), and it's quite a negative/annoying thing having a bunch of games sitting around that you don't have time to touch, which you have spent money on.

I would say, just be more pratical with your game choices, and don't pick up new games while you still have others you have not finished. By the time you pick them up they will be cheap. Also, once they are cheap, they will likely stay that way, so there is no rush.

I'm trying to finish stuff but I keep playing easy games for cheap gamer score.

I've got to finish:

Assassins Creed 2
Modern Warfare 2
Mass Effect 2
Dead Space
NFS:MW

And then I haven't even started Lego Indiana Jones 2 and Bioshock 2, and then there's Bad Company 2 soon, Just Cause 2, Split Second, Crackdown 2, Dead Rising 2... ARGH!

You're growing up! :D I also find games less interesting these days, there's only the odd title that I will complete, I think I'm just getting old! :/

You are never too old for games :D

Maybe he just needs a little break from them. Take a week off without playing and then see if you get the urge.

If not take up drinking ;)

Im pretty much the same as my free time is more limited now.

Also their is more choices/things to do with my "reduced" free time.
Kids,TV,Movies,Eating Out...

In getting older Ive found that once you get to play and experience a long awaited game then the initial attraction/excitment of eventually having it starts to drop as it becomes "just another game". Seems many get more fun from experiencing a game than actually finishing it. Ohh great graphics, nice audio. plays well yeah I like it and before long your looking rather for the next new experience than actually finishing the game youve just bought and have half finished.

Ive got to the stage I buy 3-4 games a year max.
Also skipped so many games in the last year as the interest to play them wasnt that high even though I know id enjoy them.

I'm sort of suffering the same. I got myself The Witcher Enhanced edition. FANTASTIC GAME, but I cant settle down enough to just sit and play. I need thing to be perfect before i can even play for an hour, if the house isnt clean, if the pots arent away, if my bills arent paid, if i've not eaten, if my cats arent sorted, <Insert things i forgot x 10> Then i just can't sit down and play.

It's terrible because I want to play my gaaaames!! But even if i do sit and play, I have everything and anything running through my head :(

Yup same here

I feel the same, although I dont think it's due to getting old at 18 :p, its just a general disinterest currently.
Still need to finish fallout 3 (right near the end), batman arkham asylum and there's loads of other games I've got which I haven't/barely started.

I'm awesome at NOT finishing games :p

However, i was mostly a PC gamer (yes i know i'm in the console section!) so would often find myself getting messaged to play a game of CSS, or would quickly alt tab to check something or do something else whilst in game and that would be it for a while before I picked it back up.

However at christmas I picked up myself a PS3 and have found now that I am playing games to complete rather than just play them which I would often do on PC, find having the PS3 for gaming only quite good in that respect

Now the issue is finding time to play the games..

I'm much better at finishing console games than I am at finishing PC games. I have loads of games on Steam bought during weekend sales that I haven't even started, let alone finished.
With console games though I tend to stick with them to the end unless they're awful. Recently finished Silent Hill: Shattered memories on the Wii although it was only 6-8hrs gameplay ;) before that was RE4.

I massively suck at completing games. Arkham Asylum at the weekend, powered through both of those!

I'm almost there with AA , i need to do 9 more achievements :)

Biggest Bang - Hard mode
Party Pooper
Freeflow 40
Freeflow perfection
Freeflow Bronze
Freeflow Silver
Freeflow Gold
Perfect Knight - 100%

but i do have my days where i cba to play any games what so ever and get bored with what game i do end up playing

I also have games in my collection that I know I will never get around to playing such as Dead Space.

Another example is Uncharted 2

I bought Dead Space back then too and it's still untouched and I also haven't bothered unwraping Uncharted 2 yet either, I have many more games that are unplayed most of which were bought on steam.

When I see a game selling for a good price I just buy it and may never get around to playing it.

I try and finish every retail game i play either rented or one ive purchased, unless the game im playing is poop or i just dont get on with it. Downloadable games i tend to just pick at a few levels here and there while im not busy or if the mrs is on the 360 (use PS3 on my monitor). Ive stopped playing a lot of MP games though as its one thing i dont have much time for, and would rather finish a story based game first. Those who have uncharted 2 and cant be bothered to play it need a big slap from a smelly fish! PLAY IT NOOOWW!
