Nokia N900

Was thinking of getting this phone but have read some posts about the usb port being very dodgy. The occurrences seem to be getting more regular and Nokia are contesting many of the issues. There's a big thread about it on the Maemo forum.

Just wondered if anyone on here had any issues?

I think the issues are minimal - if you look on that forum and see the poll on the usb port the vast majority have no problems with it whatsoever. Mines fine too.:)

Possibly because there are more phones out in the public every day. Simple answer really, the greater the number of a certain product in use the greater the number of problems that will be flagged up.

I quite like them - especially the sound the N900 makes when the battery is low -sounds like its in mourning!
I kind of like that sound :)

the keyboard surround near "xcvb" has a big gap and when i press buttons the surround seems to come up.

check your phone guys. look for the keys xcvb and just below it is the surround.
Mine is brand new - there is no visible gap there.

My USB is ok - snug fit - but I've only had it for ten hours.

My first impressions are very good. The screen is excellent - vibrant (albeit only indoors so far) and reasonably easy to keep clean. I've already installed a few widgets and apps - it was straight forward and intuitive (although there were a few user-related hiccups at the start!). I like the fact I have four desktops to play with, so I can maintain different desktops depending on what I might be doing (say, on the road, at home, at work, etc...).

Tomorrow, on a full charge, I'll get some more play in, check out all the settings, move across all my music, get a few more games on there and do some more personalisation.

One thing I will say - browsing the net was a pleasure on this device - absolutely superb.

Agreed, and also the poll will be swayed as more people with a problem are likely to vote than if there isnt one.

I had a mirrored one to start with. Too much grief, due to the proximity sensor above the screen being partially blocked. It always thought that your face was close to it.
Now got 2 cheap ones from the bay and they are excellent for what I want.

I am, however, considering a Zagg full body protector for it.

I got this phone yesterday - used up the initial charge and then charged the phone over night. Right now it's sitting at a near full charge, after having played with it all day. So either the battery isn't as bad as some might think, or the battery icon is not very accurate.

I should look into a protector for it as well.

then ur getting a false reading lol

i do a full charge and after 20mins of web browsing lose about 20% lol

i stuck a screen protector that came with car charger , case (dont fit...seller sending replacement)and hard case for £5. the screen protector is very good, doesnt get scratched easily like the one i had for n97 and no bubbles anywhere and touch screen reponse is the same :)

Well, a further 5 hours on and it's showing about 20% gone. It's been connected to my wireless all day, had 12gb of music carried across, all my settings fixed and two more apps downloaded. The Batlevel app says I'm on around 70%. It must be false all round :)

Still very happy with the phone :D

anyone got the latest firmware update yet? Its about 16mb and fixes a few issues. I keep trying but being told no updates available. There's also a 'huge' update coming in the next month or so.

No firmware updates for me beyond the two I got just after first switching the phone on - one of 20mb, one of 90mb or so.

For those worried about power consumption - the phone was sitting at 53% at 7am (that's a full 24 hours) but is now down to 43% due to downloading and installing a number of applications (about 8) including Freeciv, which took quite a while to install (but not download - 20mb in under 20 seconds :D!) - it also had a reboot :) I think it will improve over the next week as well. Perhaps the latter ones have newer batteries?

*Battery*

Honestly it depends what you have running in the background, if you just got it, chances are you haven't installed as many background apps as other people. For instance things like weather/rss/email/other crap if they have low timeouts, will drain your battery fast.

From what I hear the battery life is decent taking into account what it does.

I found that my battery wasn't as good as it was when i first got the phone, i assumed this was because of additional apps and updates etc. I'd leave it on charge through the night and it would last the whole day with just general usage. but would need charging again every night. But after letting the battery completely drain and then recharge fully, disconnecting once fully charged, it has improved quite a lot. i'm getting almost 1.5 days now with the same usage. Has anyone else found this?

The firmware afaik is delayed for UK because of extra software updates like Ovi Maps 3.3 etc

Im currently on 2.2009.51-1.203.2

I did download the global update, RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM, but too scared to install it so ill wait. Best thing to do I think :D
