BC2 BETA... Your thoughts and SCREENSHOTS of it

I'm being left with a real sour taste in my mouth, first it was 'play the beta and then tell us the FOV is bad (and surprise surprise, it was terrible). They now cant churn out a simple optimization patch on time, and for all of the gameplay tweaks (very much required), wait till the game has launched? I DONT THINK SO DICE. Cancelled my pre order, game isn't particularly good (and WHY ON EARTH they gave the PC community a Gold Rush map ill never know) will reserve judgement until I've had a few play sessions on conquest (the only mode I will be playing)

I get the feeling this is like the AvP demo, a near carbon copy of the xbox demo running on a PC.

Dice are ok at fixing things, but does take awhile, took several weeks for them to sort the issue a lot of ppl were having with bf1943 on the ps3, i believe it was Gordon Van Dyke?

Van dyke was the guy who kept us informed on the EA forum and taking all the crap that ppl were saying and still hassling EA and AOL to fix the problem, but like i said did take a few weeks though.

Oh please, DICE have quite simply the WORST record of supporting games post release ever. Just look at 2142, they had huge lag problems that took MONTHS to fix, dreadful server stability that is killing the game and they've shown no interest in fixing it, and of course patch 1.51, this patch is nothing bug fixes (and not even that many, still many glaring ones left in there) and adding in some user made maps, this patch has been in the works for A YEAR and STILL isn't released.

Battlefield 1943 - No veteran status, no working mic on PS3, server issues aplenty on xbox.

Bad Company 1 - Lag, seriously bad lag which registered the game unplayable for months, they denied its existance for a long, long time, again no working mic.

In summary, how this game releases is essentially how it will stay, this game is NOT going to get supported at all, one or two paid DLCs and maybe a patch or two (bearing in mind they need to support all 3 consoles) and then they will move onto the next game, leaving issues aplenty in their wake as they ALWAYS do.

I have to agree, from what I've seen in BF2, 2142 DICE are terrible at patching. There is massive glitches still in both these games. BF2 still has the parachute into buildings glitch, and BF2142 still has the Shield glitch that allows people to get into the Titan crates or any wall in the titan. Both are just 1 example of many glitches still left in the game.

I just hope that now DICE have a new engine designed from the ground up for Battlefield games they will have learned from their past mistakes.

Which is why i cancelled my pre order, as it stands the game is broken and unplayable (fov is just for starters, optimization, bullet damage and other issues all contribute to this) the beta and subsequent patches will bring the game up to playable and then onto average but I cant see it getting beyond that, this game has completely lost the battlefield magic, its small, cramped, with an obvious focus on gun play (and its dire gun play, a cheap cod clone0 and abysmal weapon balance.

You're basing it on a beta, wait to release, i agree that BF games are released in a ****state and never seem to get enough patching but this one doesnt seem anywhere near as bad..
Iv cancelled and gone for the 360 one and it seems fine on that!
It will be interesting to see what the PC one will be like though, I imagine itll be as problematic as all the others, aslong as its not as **** as MW2 in the eyes of the masses most wont care, atleast theres dedi servers.

Reading through this thread im probably alone but this is the first of them (and ive been around since BF2) where i havnt seen the magic beneath the bugs, what do you get here if you fix all the bugs? an average game. This game doesnt just need bug fixes, it needs sweeping changes that they wont add, im looking at commanders, squad leaders, prone (yes, prone) larger maps so the game doesnt feel so pathetically cramped (battlefield bad company one had much larger levels than this, for less players.

Obviously theres then the fact the game isnt particularly attractive, foliage looks crap, many very poor textures (dont give me a "its beta line" DICE have said the graphical improvements will be 'barely noticible' the distant buildings look crap as well, games got nice shadows however, i do like those, plus those pathetic snow effects, they add absolutely nothing to the game and just make it harder to run as well.

It doesn't need prone, i dunno what game you've been playing but snipers are already a large pain in the ass with no prone and a ghille suit. To add prone would make them just a total pain.

I also dunno what you're going on about it needing larger maps, you've played one map in the pc thats very bottlenecked and feel qualifed to pass judgement about other maps you've only seen small snippets off. Go and look for ps3 gameplay, arica harbour looks pretty big even in rushmode.

I'll agree that graphically the game doesn't look as good as i first thought, performance wise its still undergoing changes.

Good after release support for games is a thing of the past for most developers.
All they care about is units sold profit margins it's a business now more than it's ever been.Even the biggest selling game mw2 is getting very little support and I'd like to think they would do bug fix patches in paid for dlc content if they could get away with it.
Only one I can think of that gives a monkeys is valve at the moment.

Anyway i am loving this game it has it's flaws, mainly the shooting (lol) which will hopefully be sorted out pronto had a guy 6 feet away from me take 3 point blank hits from my shotgun running towards me and lived to melee me, that is just unacceptable.

Overall feels like a bit of a battlefield 2.5 but I'll take this to tide me over until battlefield 3.
I love getting stuck in deep behind enemy lines with a shotgun running and gunning against the odds taking out entire squads like some elite special forces unit.

Oh btw snipers tend to aim at stationary targets so as long as you keep moving they will rarely target you but sometimes there's a few good snipers around that can hit moving jumping targets but it seems rare.

One thing they definitely should fix is damage done by c4 on the m-coms getting tired of watching endless quads with 50 c4 packs stuck to them blowing the mcoms in one go.

Look at this vid of the apache from the 360 version, heres assuming this doesn't also get added to the youtube thread.

Looks a ton more responsive than the sloth we currently have.

The apache is a major issue for me we need much more ways to down it, it can pretty much have free reign if some clueless idiot has the uav because the mounted mgs are quite frankly useless for taking down apaches.

All I ever see is apaches pwning the crud out of everyone and rarely being shot down.

Theres a lot of other aa stuff in the full game, theres a missile launcher that the engineer can equip that you can home in with. Theres also other stationary weapons you can use.

well to all the people saying it should be done like this and that, for the price of the game £24.99 i dont think you can get better value for money, ive played this beta more than any game i own(well it seems that way)

In all fairness, it's because most people aren't high enough level yet. Once you level up, you get a homing tag, which will allow the engineer to trace the chopper. One you level up, you realise that other weapons are just as good at taking out the chopper, like a decent sniper, stationary turrets, I've even taken down a low flying chopper with the Assault's RPG. In the full game, I expect choppers won't be as much of an issue, as most people will learn their weaknesses.
