Fermi delayed till May

looks like the 5*** ati's are gonna hold their price for the next 4-5 months then, makes me feel a little bit better about having just taken delivery of 2 5870 vapor-X's :p

Custom PC said they will have tested one for the next issue ?

They might be allowed to test it but they most likely won't be allowed to print the results (maybe just selected results) all the big players in the market tie up journalists in strict NDA's now when a new product is about to launched.

Just benchmarks will help all of us out. We dont wanna keep waiting for something crap :( REAL BENCHMARKS PLEASE. They can show us benchmarks now and compare them to later. If theres no difference well there just playing with ut.

So charlie was right :D

No, Charlie (as always) used far too much hyperbole and was far too melodramatic. In that last article (about metal and base respins), Charlie was adamant that it would take a minimum of 6 months (the time it would take to tape out a base-layer respin, taking the silicon to B1) before the architecture could be manufactured in a "fixed" state.

Last time I checked, March > May is 2 months.

If Charlie were to be a little more conservative in his "predictions", and was to only state fact rather than speculation, he might be taken more seriously.

It really depends on what Nvidia are doing doesn't it?

If they were doing a base respin and it was going to delay 'good' Fermi chips for 6 months do you think they'd tell everyone? No, what they'll do is say 'it's delayed til May' and then at the end of April say 'it's delayed til July' and so on. It's what they've been doing since Autumn last year after all.

They may just be doing another minor respin in the hopes that it'll miraculously improve yields.

And besides, until Fermi is released we won't even know if it is they 'fixed' it or not. I'm not saying Charlie is right, but it's too early to tell and your reasons for assuming he's wrong aren't valid.
