Goodbye to one of the best drives in Cheshire (A537 Cat & Fiddle)

there's a pub...

VTEC MASSIVE ATTACK NEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOWNNNNNNNNN

Quick pint

VTEC MASSIVE ATTACK NEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOWNNNNNNNNN

A few (and a pub), but given the number of cameras they want to lay across the stretch (7), you'll pass at least two (possibly three) cameras before driving between the laybys.

A shame on the one hand, on the other, one of the few places where speed cameras could possibly be justified imo - a lot of accidents.

We will all have speed limiters one day, not just in trucks.... :(

In open countryside like that I wouldn't be surprised if the cameras suffer some unfortunate accident that renders them useless.

Torn on this one, the cat and fiddle is a great road, but it does have a horrendous accident rate which is largely related to excessive or inappropriate speed for the conditions.

The aspects that make the road so much fun also make it dangerous if you get it wrong, and this is especially true when driving hard.

Speed cameras aren't the best solution, but the best solution to reduce casualties would be to redo the road to make less 'hazardous activity points' (namely braking, steering etc) which would destroy it's character anyway...

Ideally, we should not need to focus on speed, but on dangerous driving, but the cat and fiddle is full of people who are approaching dangerous driving when using it...

I think it will result in a reduction in the number of accidents on this road. However, it will probably contribute to a number of accidents on other roads as drivers try to find alternatives. The former you can measure, the latter you can't.

bikers with no will to live clearly cause the issues

we all know how well specs works with bikes

which again leads me to beleive specs is just a big scam (ie doesnt actually work)

It might have a huge number of accidents but I'd wager that most of them are by people (read: petrolheads) who know the risks but fancy a good thrash around it. We all know the risks of that road but it's worth it for grin-factor. And if you crash and explode then at least you have fun doing it.

Pretty much my take on it. Living less than a mile from it's start point, I know all the "alternative" routes, most of which are technically more "dangerous" roads (more blind bends, narrower, larger drops off the edges, less armco, more crests, etc), but due to their lesser volumes of traffic, aren't reported as being more "dangerous".

Pretty sure these back roads are going to become more and more heavily used too :(

Also, the accidents on the "Cat & Fiddle" are typically caused by tourists, not locals.

Not really fair on the innocent motorist who you (could) kill in the process though is it

This is the only attributing factor worth caring about IMO.

For all I care if it were possible for the idiots to just kill themselves and not harm others, I'd be all for letting them get on with it.
