Hi,

Just wondering, any of you guys use ramdisks? If so, what do you use them for?

I just found out that Superspeed ramdisk lets you utilise the unmanaged memory from a 32-bit OS, so in my case that came out to be 512mb from my 4gigs! So I thought I would give it a try with the evaluation and see if its worth it, since its not in use anyway.

Ive just put firefox on the ramdisk and it seems to be noticeably faster but Im at a loss what else I can do (only ~350mb left!). Some said to use it as a pagefile which I will probably try but dont know how useful a 300mb pagefile is going to be!

That unmanaged memory thing proved to be very unstable for me, ymmv. Pagefile on ramdisk doesn't make all that much sense.

I've got temporary files in one, and debian writes logs to one. This does mean I lose all records whenever I reboot. I went through a stage of moving data into a largish one when working on it, then moving it back when finished. Periodically try to move entire applications into one, going to get debian booting from one with any luck in a week or so.

Well Ive given it a bit of a test to see how it is and so far there has been no funny stuff - no random crashes or anything.

But so far all its done is made firefox a bit faster to load, I need to find a better use for this.
