I'm sure this has been discussed many times before but I just can't decide on going Asus or Gigabyte. I know both the boards I'm looking at are perfect for my needs (the Asus P6T Deluxe and the Gigabyte UD5) but which will get me the best support?

Thanks,

Jake

I'd say gigabyte was a lot better for motherboard after sales support, but Asus recently changed their system and I also had a bad experience with gigabyte, so swings and roundabouts now. I wouldn't worry about it and just get the board you want instead. In terms of the hardware, I've always found gigabyte boards to fail a lot less than Asus, and generally being better built, but at this high level I don't think there'll be much in it.

I have a weird brand loyalty to Asus for high end products. Never had a bad board/card from them. Just lucky I guess.

Recently I have built several low cost systems fro friends/family based on the Gigabyte G31-ES2L. Excellent boards for the money.

The P6T (the one I have played with is the P6TD Deluxe) seems like a quality peice of kit. Excellent overclocking options. I'd recommend that and would even use one myself if I were to build an i7 rig. At that kind of money I'd say go for the one tha takes your fancy!

Tough call these days. Motherboards from each are roughly equivalent in build quality / likely hood of failure. Historically Gigabyte have a far stronger RMA service, but Asus are making progress with theirs so it's hard to know.

If buying today I'd probably be happy with either.

its so hard to choose seeing as there is no clear cut view on each company. ive heard good about both. everyone has their preferences...

I have been in both camps over the past six years - was an Asus man, but due to lousy support I swapped over to gigabyte last three years and touch wood I have had excellent boards from gigabyte and been very happy. I would give the edge to gigabyte at the moment. At the end of the day I would just choose on price /performance/value for money and what suits you.
Most modern boards are very reliable anyway.

I've had a lot of Asus boards, and I love them dearly, but whenever I've needed a driver for them the support website download speeds have been terribly slow. I'm talking about less than a kb/s in some cases :( Lovely products though.

thanks I'll just keep looking at review and benchmarks then :D This thread cleared up my concerns that they are both pretty much the same.

Umm this is probably a dumb question but I'm relatively new to the computer world. I've seen people say RMA but I don't know what it is. Probs being stupid here and it's something I've know but forgotten.

Request manufacturers assistance I'd be guessing. Basically means if there's a problem with a component you send it back to them, and they either fix it or replace it - providing there's something wrong with it.

Personally, I'd go for ASUS. Had my P6T for just about a year now, and I can't fault it.

Cool thanks. Do you have a P6TD Deluxe or a normal P6T ro some other version? Because I'm trying to find out which is best.

I have the normal P6T. Although whichever the latest refresh of the board is best, as they fixed some of the customers complaints, not with the hardware failing but extra features on the board, like better heat sinks and such.
