5970 grief

ok.. edited lol

Im also thinking of using thermoelectric cooling (peltier) plates.. where you put a current through one side goes icy cold, while the other side gets real hot though.. you can put those between the gpus / memchips and the heatsink.. but that again requires a certain level of tinkering with hardware.

Did you set up a tent outside the store? hehe

But I think the reason why the 5970 is so rare now might be because of all the problems with it. But it is just a theory off the top of my head. I have yet to try out my 5870 because I need to buy a gigantic PC case to house it in, so I have no opinions of my XFX 5870 yet.

Meh, I'd just set it up in a mobo tray till it got here hehe

if you look a few posts up you'll see I explained it, I just created a new overclock profile and manually set the clocks and deleted the old profiles, and now everything is fine.

Have you flashed your card with the updated bios for manual fan control, im thinking of doing mine but iv never flashed a card before and i dont wanna brick the card lol.

i have AVP and stalker arriving tomorrow to test some dx 11

No I haven't flashed it, I am a little nervous about doing that, it seems to be working fine so I am just going to leave it! Yeah I am getting AVP too so I am looking forward to the DX 11, although I have stalker and it looks so dated even with dx 11!!!

Reviews havent been too kind to AVP gamespot 5.5 to 6 and 7s lol but there for console anyway i tested both with the demo and the PC kicked the xboxs butt when it came to graphics lol console looks terrible, do you have your card at stock clocks or have you overclocked it

i was going to get the Haf 932 but theres no dust filters on the case at all and the interior is silver and i prefer black so you cant see the cables inside too much

There's no point trying to get around the sig rules by adding your computer spec to the end of all your posts.

Just thought I'd update the thread (and try and steer it back on topic!) - since installing 10.2 drivers I haven't had any desktop "driver has stopped responding" errors, even running the default 157/300 clocks.

One thing I have noticed which seems quite peculiar is that on the desktop now it seems as if the 2nd core is switched off completely until I start using it? CCC shows it as 0/0 on core/memory until I do something (e.g. Furmark in a window) at which point it springs into life. Pretty cool if that's a power saving thing.

Thanks man :)

Early days yet so it could still have problems but it hasn't done the "driver has stopped responding" thing since going to 10.2.

i finally get to test some dx 11 out tomorrow with stalker and AVP so busy day tomorrow gotta take all my system apart to switch cases also, as far as the 2d thing goes its hit and miss realy some people get and some dont hope everything works out for you anyway its a great card when it works lol

have you tried raising your 2d clocks, just updated the bios on my card as well for manual fan control first time flashing a card everything went ok. Also about raising the 2d clocks you shouldnt realy haft to do this though not with a new card anyway if you've tryed all the drivers and still getting the problem i would try and RMA the card for a component this expensive you shouldn't have problems with it and haft to mess around with it lol

Now that is how you powersave. Well done, ATI.
