Interested in getting a new MBP in the near future, either the 13" or the 15", probably the lower spec of each.

However, it seems there are lots of rumours going around about them being updated in the short term.

If I was planning on purchasing one now, it would be a refurb from the Apple Store more than likely, as I've been very pleased with their service before.

Any advice? Do you think the updates on the MBP will be massive?

An MBP refresh is very likely.

You may be safer going with the 13 because it's less likely to get a major upgrade. But no-one really knows.

MBP 13 here and can highly recommend them :)

I think the 13" is a better option for me, with the difference in price I can buy a 24" LCD + apple keyboard and mouse that I can hook up to it for home use..

Are there any rumours about what the refresh holds? Bluray drives, RAM & Processor upgrades maybe?

No, they're not. But they do have, it seems, regular updates. If the tech updates match their schedule they seem on time, if they don't - well, they don't.

In this instance *personally* I'd wait. i5s or at least something is due. We're on the cusp of their not only being new tech but also hitting the regular update schedule - ish.

This is the first time in as long as I can remember having a laptop going out of warranty - I'm ready to replace when as something happens...Which will hopefully be i5.

The other argument of course is that if the current model & spec suits your needs right now it will still suit your needs right now regardless of what gets released tomorrow.

I'm holding out for a 13" MBP. Going to sell my iMac to fund it. Just ordered a 500GB WD scorpion blue from OCUK in preparation. :P

I want to order a 13" macbook pro also in the coming months, as i need a new laptop, i figure now is the time to see what my work colleagues are raving about! I might wait a bit based on this thread!

Macrumors.com has a handy guide showing the estimated product lifecycle for all the Apple gear.

As has been said, it would seem the MBPs are overdue a refresh, hold onto your cash for a little longer...

If you read the guide... the best you get is neutral for some products. No outright buy recommendations - and lots of don't buy in the mac range.

I think there may be a delay in the next round of mac updates in order to make sure that buyers money is available for a successful ipad launch.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a simultaneous thing. Let's face it, if you are whacking down £1500 or whatver on a MBP another couple of hundred for a iPad might be possible for a bunch of people.

Also I think that by not bringing stuff out means people will stick with what they have rather than initiate a 'buy' feeling in the MBP owners due to the new model launch.

Overall, the majority of people can do what they need with C2D chips that are present already. Apple have traditionally held onto a technology for quite some time.

You think it will be refreshed by mid-March? Off to LV so considering getting one abroad now its so near...

Any downsides to that idea? Warranty? Other than Im going for a Stag Do so might not have much time to shop for a MBP. I presume the pricing still makes it cheaper there?

ps3ud0

I would personally wait... I would think the new upgrade (Which is meant to be soon...) will include a processor update... and I would think maybe a graphics update also :)
