I always allow an hour for most tube journeys

No, the tube is ****. I stick to National Rail\buses unless I have to change between mainline terminals.

And if your Oyster card doesn't let you through the gate, please do not stand there repeatedly trying, then looking around like a lost puppy when it is plain to see you need to get out of the blummin way and put some more money on it.
Most of us Londoners think the opposite.
I don't commute into the city...or even the posher suburbs. So it's kind of useless to me.
Edit: and even with the Oyster card, a tenner a day on travel for a subsidized service is a complete joke.

Newcastle has the metro, which is like a mini less complicated tube

Should be greatly extended though. I want stations on the Quayside, in Ouseburn, Metro Centre etc etc.
