Help!! Any idea what kind of frame rate I SHOULD be getting for this game? Original spec -

Dell Dimension 9200
2 Gig RAM
Radeon X1300
Dual Core - 3.4Ghz = Unplayable

so I've upraded GFX card and mem to
4 Gig RAM
Radeon 5770
Which now equals = 12-15fps (still unplayable)

Whats up with this? Surely I should be able to get 30fps after upgrading?

Cheers

Pentium D? That's a single core with hyperthreading isn't it?

Post your game's settings. You'll have to keep them way down low to even have it playable on a single core machine.

Listed as dual core 800mhz Bus Speed

Games setting - 1280x1024, i'll have to get back with the rest as on lappy at the moment, not at home.

Your pentium D is certainly a dual core processor (hence the D :p), but not a great one..certainly when compared to the kind of tech people run GTA IV on

The system requirements state 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo (don't be fooled by the low clock speed ;)) most would also agree that even this is nowhere near enough, hence the quad core 2.4 GHz recommended processor.

 So!!! Would it be feasible or even possible to upgrade the bloody CPU to Core 2 Duo??

If so whats the max I could go for??

Try this. Set the draw distance, detail distance and car density all to 10-15. Your current processor is going to be bottlenecked trying to calculate AI and physics so work from those values and see how high you can go.

Your card should be capable of decent visuals but try medium texture and detail settings as the CPU would likely be bottlenecked slopping around high resolution data files.

I wouldnt risk it tbh. The motherboard you have there will be made for/by Dell, from a time when Prescott cores were all the craze. This means that your motherboard probably wouldnt be able to recognise a Core 2 processor, let alone use it, simply because they came out after your motherboard was made.
Also I think they run at a higher fsb than Pentium Ds, which your motherboard wouldnt support.

Will also give this a try, waste of the gfx card though!! :o
