Mileage claims at work

Hi all,

if any of you claim expenses at work for using your own car, how much per mile do you receive?

I get 25p/mile for a 1.9cc diesel.
Going back over 10 years ago i used to get 46p/mile for a 1800cc petrol. And fuel costs were a lot less back then

Was i overpaid back then or under paid now?

50p or 55p/mile thats for using any car, so works out quite well for me.

We currently get a flat rate of 40p per mile - if that be in a 1.1 or 4.0 monster.

Used to get 40p a mile at my old place of work, 2.0 diesel here. Made a fortune in mileage claims but usually took forever to be paid it. "Whats that? Those drawings urgently need delivered 80miles away? Ill go!"

Edit - and you arent getting ripped, a gallon of diesel is roughly £5 and if you do 40mpg then it only costs you 12.5p a mile

For every 6 miles I get 2 additional hours - yeah it's taxed & nic'd but it works out quite well!

Flat rate of 40p a mile for the first 10,000miles and 25p thereafter IIRC. Doesn't matter what car/engine.

Which happens to be the maximum allowed tax free

It doesn't really matter as you can claim tax relief for the difference between what you employer pays & the hmrc standard rate (40p/mile for the first 12k miles iirc). It's intended to even out the payments different companys make. Anything over the standard rate & you should be taxed on it as a benefit in kind.

As said for the first 10,000 miles you can be paid 40p tax free and 25p thereafter.

If you have another employee in the car with you, you can be paid another 5p extra tax free.

As to what a company pays you though is up to them. A mate of mine gets 60p per mile and does a lot of miles which roughly equates that every two years he can buy a very decent new car and his profit is basically what his old car is worth.

In general most firms don't pay above the tax free rates set by the Inland Revenue.

Was getting 26p/mile up to first 6000 miles but then it dropped to 8p/mile. After complaining I've now been given a brand new Peugeot 207SW to use instead whilst at work. Happier with that as frankly I'm not running up mileage on my own car now

I get paid 55p a mile and 65p coming back, or if i do two deliverys at the same time, it goes up to £1 a mile coming back

As most other people, 40p flat upto 10,000 then 25p a mile! For education purposes i get 25p a mile + 5p for every passenger

43p per mile. Hope you've got business class 1 insurance?

If not, I'd recommend you amend your policy.
