UKIP are just embarrassing

No. The manner of it was a little demeaning and unfair I would say. :)

Nature of the beast I am afraid. When you only really have a single policy you have to milk it for what it is worth.

I still don't understand why Euro-sceptics want to get elected as MEPs if they hate the EU so much. I can see they say they want to bring the EU down from within but that's not really going to happen is it?

It wouldn't be overly representative of the views of the country if only europhillic parties were allowed to be voted in would it? What they can do is use their position to try and delay and restrict legislation that they feel is damaging to the UK.

Well they've got to do something to get a name for themselves, no-one likes europe so why not try that? :p

He can say pretty much anything he wants, nothing's going to chance the fact that our political system only has 2 parties. Unless, of course, one of them pledges to invade Argentina and France upon being elected.

True.

I didn't say anything about not letting anti-EU parties field candidates for MEP election, I said I couldn't understand why they would want to be MEPs. Don't most anti-EU MEPs go on about how the money the UK gives to the EU is a waste of the British taxpayers money? So they go and field themselves as candidates for MEP so they can earn some money they think is a waste.

I don't think there are enough anti-EU MEPs to delay or restrict EU legislation that they think would be damaging to their country.

He has a point.

he is a cretin

given that you are the sort of person who thinks you can make some sort of constructive protest by making a vote for the BNP (and therefore supporting that moron nick griffin) I would not expect you to be able to judge just how pathetic and moronic that MEP looks

so it is relevant politically to talk about his appearance?

It is, rightly or wrongly we are judged on our appearance.

I am overall pro European but I think this President thing is a big fail, un democratic and a waste of time, who is this guy, what does he even do, I have not heard a speech or anything, I know more about Obama and even the leader of China, President of EU, supposedly the most wealthy group of nations on earth and most people have never heard of him. Great leader.

Atleast people knew who Hitler was and what he looked like. :D

yes, rightly or wrongly we are judged on our appearance but you really think this is justified / relevant? it's not that serious but surely the MEP slagging off the EU president looks more of a fool for it!

How are you supposed to inspire people to take an interest in politics when yet another grey old person is put into a prominent position of power? Of whom we know nothing about of course.

Perhaps Farage could have expressed his views in some other way? He should have gone for the ball, not the man. However, that wouldn't have got him the publicity which he so desperately craves.

Whatever, Farage and his fringe party of Little Englanders come out of this looking like a complete embarrassment who will quite rightly never be taken seriously.

So I've changed my attitude having watched it. I'm not sure why all the shock and dismay in this thread - that didn't seem all that far removed from the sort of blows traded across the floor of the House of Commons at PMQs.

Having said that, attacking someone's character is just a shallow point scoring exercise with no substance at all. From Farage that doesn't surprise me at all. Heaven forbid he would actually attack their policies (which is of course fair game).

You guys have to ask yourself why would the BBC only show a quick snippet of Farrage's speech? maybe this was taken out of context, the fact that the BBC attacks any party but the false paradigm of Labour/Conservative must surely show you where their bias lays.

we all know that Van Rumpoy is an un-elected European apparatchik with double standards and the fact that we don't get to elect him makes it even worse.

For instance he wants to institute a European wide 'climate change tax', i mean WTF the science hasn't even been settles yet this bureaucrat wants us to pay more taxes... i guess its no surprise given that these European apparatchiks are exempt from the taxes they implement against us.

I for one will probably vote UKIP as all the other parties are a complete joke, Labour, Conservative, BNP etc... granted some people will not appreciate Farrage's style but at least his party stands for the UK economy, border control, freedom and liberty and above all an independent UK as it has been for hundreds of year (until last year). I guess this is how far our political system has fallen, instead of analysing policies from parties it has become an American style 'popularity contest' as most of the people on here probably couldnt even quote an agenda from a party but yet say they wont vote UKIP because of Farrage... It's threads like this and the responses from some of the 'good old boys' on here that makes me think this country deserves exactly what is coming to it... i mean we all know that Labour will pass the baton back to the Conservatives in a few months time and the false left/right paradigm will continue, Labour shafting us in one way, Conservatives continue shafting us in another and when any other party pops up the controlled media and the 'good old boys' ridicule them to attempt to maintain the established order of Labour/Conservative/Labour/Conservative/Labour/Conservative when both of these parties are practically identical, hence the fake left/right paradigm is being maintained.

For you guys who only get your politics update from the BBC here's the rest of his speech, again ASK YOURSELF WHY THE BBC DOESN'T SHOW THIS FINAL PART, i guess it has something to do with the fact that the BBC don't want any true criticism of the death of our democracy through European bureaucracy, i mean the European government is closer to a Soviet Style government than a western democracy... maybe this is why Farrage is so frustrated.

SO WHY DIDN'T THE BBC SHOW THE LAST PART OF THIS SPEECH??? WHEN FARRAGE TALKS ABOUT THE CONTEMPT OF THE EUROPEAN APPARATCHIKS AGAINST DEMOCRACY.

FFS. IF YOUR GOING TO COMMENT ON POLITICS THEN GET YOUR NEWS FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE ASIDE FROM THE BBC... in my opinion the OP has just embarrassed himself for buying hook, line and sinker into BBC propaganda.
