Nokia N900

AFAIK this is normally the case for pretty much all phone firmware....

The 'global' versions get updated first followed by region/country specific.

I did download the global update, RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM, but too scared to install it so ill wait. Best thing to do I think :D

i flashed mine this morning using xp mode (i have win7 64bit). I also flash emmc so its fully fresh!

restored my backup so i'm happy bunny

From some guy over at maemo.org:

Ok, Ok, I think I have an answer!! My phone just reset, you know, how they usually do every now and again, but I thought what the heck, I'll call Nokia and ask the progress of the minor update!

Anyway, it appears that only some countries and even then, not all users in that country have managed to receive the minor update. This is an issue and apparently most UK and some Finland users have not been able to get the update as we all now!!

So, they guy at Nokia has confirmed that they know about the issue, and that there is a major update coming last week of Feb/First wek of March. What they will do is merge the minor update with the major update so we will all get everything in one go.

So it seems we may have to wait a little longer, but they recognise the issue and we will get it eventually!

Just thought I'd let you know what I was told!

i thought of getting one of these but im not sure as nokia have linked up with intel to develop the meego, does that spell the death of maemo?

It will use the same programming language for applications as on the N900 (QT). This means the N900 will get a lot of new programmes (most likely).

Anyone come across some software allowing browsing of WiFi networks? Really looking at using my N900 for troubleshooting/testing so i don't have to carry a laptop with me everywhere! :)

It's a hell of a device, can anyone else name a phone that has been able to run some many os's? So far I have seen three flavours of Windows, Maemo and now Android, probably a few other linux distro's. Shame it's not been a big hit - Nokia has barely marketed it.

Anyone else thinking we'll have an 'update' to MeeGo soon and they'll just switch everything to that instead of continuing with Maemo?

Not in the short term: I believe Nokia said in Barcelona that Maemo 6 will be the last Maemo-branded release. There will probably be an update to that though.

you can get a app which shows status of wifi including power, channel etc i think its called wifiinfo

Having had the phone for a week now, I am even more impressed than ever. Great piece of kit. My only gripe at the moment is the fact that when I receive a text message, it just makes a noise and the notification light blinks blue - I'd like the screen to activate. Pretty small change, but that's the only thing annoying me right now :)

Hell, I even made this post from my N900 - and I'm not even slightly frustrated at the keyboard :D
