£600000 Isn't going to last you long

This!

600K isn't that much in this day and age. In your teens it seems like a lottery win but 600K from 21 until death (assuming you don't manage to kill yourself beforehand) won't last. Especially if your not working because boredom will lead to spending. You'll spend spend spend, run out of money to fund the spending, sell what assets you have to keep up the spending and probably die in a pool of your own filth with a syringe hanging out your arm.

Enjoy ;)

Now for option 2. Spend a bit, save the rest, get a good job and retire at 55 with a good 30-40 years of great living to look foward to and no worries of spending your last days in an NHS home - again probably sat in your own filth.

Sounds life changing to me.

It may well be life changing but that doesn't of course mean it is changing for the better or indeed that £600k is going to be enough to live off for the rest of your life*. If you can treat it as a nice windfall (although through unfortunate circumstances of course) and use it to augment earnings through a job then you'll make it last longer and quite possibly have a more fulfilled life but that's just how I'd treat it. It's not my money and not my life so ultimately my opinion is largely irrelevant.

*nb the above caveat about it not lasting the rest of your life doesn't apply if you only live to 23 because you've crashed your supercar into a tree after a coke and alcohol fuelled binge with prostitutes aka the proper way to spend £600k. ;)

Dude you could chill and do nothing and enjoy yourself there is no harm in it. But when you hit 30 and have blown the lot will you look back and think that maybe you could have done something to at least make yourself proud.

I would want to be proud of myself and hold my head high, I would at least think of the options you have. University, travel, there are so many things you can do.

Good luck and I hope you choose your choice wisely, JAMMY GIT :)

I would use the £600k to fund some time to find yourself. Travel around for a few years at your own pace. See New York, Paris, Shanghai, Buenos Aires, Mumbai, Tehran, Kingston, Harare, Moscow - the list of cities is almost endless. Figure out what it is you like and what it is you want to do. That's a process that almost nobody ever has the opportunity to go through, and it will enlighten you in ways you can barely imagine today.

£600k is a lot of money for 21. I know for a fact if I inherited that sort of money, I would blow it on fast cars. I think you should work, there's not a better feeling at young age to work hard and earn your money. You're more careful as you spend it too.

Try work, once you've acomplished that, you may be able to acomplish a lot of other things with the motivation.

Good luck. :)

You sound like a lazy dosser, why don't you go and do something with your life?
How about you set youself up with a house, a car and a few quid to live on while you go back to school eh?

Buy a second arse, maybe you can fit your own head through that one too!

But if you really want an answer, I agree with the post earlier about starting a business.

I say get a job now and use the £800 per month your getting to pay of a mortgage on a property as an investment, and then when you receive the 600,000 continue to invest the money wisely, there is no reason why you couldn't become a millionaire in the future if you put that money to good use, personally I'd want to at least double that 600,000k, treat it as a challenge.

Nice amount :) I had a similar situation now 24 and its wise to put the money into a savings account and sit down with a financial planner and talk to a professional and get advice from them. So many options with £600,000, good luck.

Sounds life changing to me.

Yeah I suppose you're right :) But it depends on your circumstances. I'm not super rich by any stretch, it to me 600k would buy you a nice home and an awesome car. That recent lotto jackpot of 73mil or whatever, now THAT's life changing.

Ant

Do something useful with the money and make more out of it. I suggest you start learning as much as you can about finance and how to manage it, etc.

Apart fromt he other VERY good ideas in this thread id suggest taking a world trip. Might give you some ideas and perspective, spend time in hostels obviously.. not fancy hotels.
