My SAAB

My '87 saab had one touch windows, strange..

I do like the look of those old 9-3s but the bulkhead cracking is a worry, though perhaps blown out of proportion on t'internet..

The SS doesn't suffer from the same problem...

Think I'll stick to my classic 900/9000..

Mine does not have one touch windows:mad:

I too got worried when I read about the bulkhead cracking, my local indy wanted around £300 to sort bulkhead cracks. Im getting a steering brace fitted shortly which should hopefully stop it happening in the future.

Possibly, but on mine, Saab UK Fulham had foot half the repair bill in 2006 when the car was 8 years old... and funnily enough not a single official Saab stamp in the service book since day one either! They must have been in a generous mood to have done it, but to me it means they knew its a common fault...

even more annoying - why does it extend when playing CD's?!?

That'll for the TA system that cuts to the traffic announcement on the radio. (They all do it 900/9000 & 1st gen 93, unless you swap the aerial for a bee sting or stubby. You could unplug the motor raise plug from the bottom, but this might affect the signal quality of the radio)

As for one touch windows, strangely the front windows are one touch for down but not back up. (at least mine do this, and my car is very similar in most respects to the 93. (you need to press the switch down lightly and push a little harder and you should find a second click) Since i almost never open any of the windows, it has never been something that bothered me.

It'll be for safety, so that children don't trap their face in the window or whatever. It's cheaper than having a mechanism that drops the window if it senses resistance. The 5 Series does this, but I haven't had the balls to stick my finger in a closing window since trapping it in a friend's Mini. I forgot they were frameless :(

Kei, any pics of your 900 turbo?

Lol, if you mean the picture in my sig, that is my dream car, which is in the saab museum. My 900 turbo is the green one above. Looks just like a 93, and since my badges were loosing their silver i took them off.

Differences that are visible on the 900 vs the 93 are:
1. The rear panel between the lights with a badge instead of the registration plate
2. The tail light design is subtly different + the high level brakelight is under the spoiler rather than the top of the tail gate
3. The front/rear bumpers are different with a chrome/black strip
4. The grille is of the older design which includes the old turbo badge
5. The interior panels were black rather than gray (the parts that are always the same colour)
6. Three spoke steering wheel without radio controls or bumps/perforated leather
7. Different seat design, 93 seat runners are further apart.

Other than these visible differences they are virtually the same car with some alterations in the steering/front suspension system. My car is also in a rare colour that only lasted a few years (around 1992-1995)

This is my car (back in 2004, when it had badges, a grey velour interior, painted rear panel and 15" alloys, generally referred to as a NG900 ng = new generation, and sometimes called the GM900 for its vauxhall underpinning)

Here is my dream car (don't yet own one but i am always on the lookout, it is generally referred to as the classic 900 aka C900)

Looks alright to me, I don't think the interior is too bad for what it is, looks very functional and solid enough. The grey plastic around the lower centre console,, around the climate unit etc is what I dislike the most I think.

My Dad had a Talladega Red Classic 900 T16S which he sold to get his Viggen. It was in great condition, not a spot of rust on it. He sold it because he was fed up of not driving it. In too good a condition to let it go. Think he only did about 3k miles in 2 or 3 years with it. Have those Carlsson wheels still on the 9000 that I crashed. Alloys are still fine so will likely be selling them now. We had one bloke on a saab forum offer us another Classic 900 (think it was a Ruby) in exchange for them once as they're apparently like rocking horse droppings :)

Astonoshing bargain for 1400 quid, wow. Nice.

Trying to work out where the pictures were taken, is that Millbay?

Nearly, its the new-builds in Devonport. My Girlfriend and I brought our first house here last July. Never imagined myself buying a house in D'port but TBH the area isnt as bad as I feared.

I brought the car from a guy in Down Thomas, didnt think I would get it as cheap as I did :p
