Focus RS MK 2

I would love one if my driving/commute allowed it to be used, I sat in one last week to make sure I fit (6'5) and i did, still getting a test drive is pretty dam hard!

On a note, front tyres seem too last less than 8,000 miles to many and much less to enthusiasts!

Yes i am still thinking on it, but all in, the idea is going away from me!

While I agree that comparing list price of one car to second hand prices of others is pretty irrelevant, I doubt that the sort of person who's interested in a Focus RS would be interested in a diesel BMW :)

Saying that though, if someone is saying "I'm going to buy car xxxx new" (which the OP hasnt), it's perfectly valid to show what they could get instead, used or otherwise.

PS, make a note of "ruination", I want to use it more in conversation

Enlighten me, what can you have for around £26-28k brand new that is comparable to and discernibly better than the RS? I bet the selection isn't all that great.

Thats not what people are saying though, yes brand new not much quicker can be bought.

But why buy brand new, what advantages does it bring to a few years older?

Thats what people are getting at here. But as you have said, if it must be brand new (for whatever reason) I doubt you could go much quicker.

Yet again, another numpty who thinks that comparing a cars brand new list price against other cars second hand prices is relevant or appropriate.

Unless the criteria is "Has to be new" then it is appropriate.

Define "better". Everyone has a different definition of whats "better". I'd say a 370Z is better, doesn't mean everyone thinks the same.

Buy a nice Mk1 FRS for 12k, spend 1k on mods and you have a 300+ bhp Focus RS.

With plenty of change left over from 28k for a few nice holidays.

yeah but if your not interested in the "new" part and are just buying it because they are a focus RS MK2, then this needs baring in mind.

Cheapest one on pistonheads is £23k. A lot of money for a hot hatch. Next nearest is 24k however, its the very bottom end of the market that one. They all seem to be more like 25 to 26k.

..and you've still got a 300bhp FWD car.

Brand new Mitsubishi Evo X FQ-300 GS are £30,299 list price, which I'm sure you could knock down to closer to £28k if you were paying up front in cash. Considerably more car for the money.

£28k for a 300bhp FWD hatchback is laughable.

Was looking to get one april to june 2nd hand if poss round the £24000 mark. But may go new been working hard on my own business for over 2 years so now its time for payback :)

Saw one of these for the first time the other day.

Bright green.

Looked awful. Not massively discernible from the chaved up rudeboy cars and I thought it looked rather decent in its press shots..

I know 2 people who have bought one now, and they're very nice cars, really very well rounded package, despite it being superduperlamefwd, especially tasty with all the goodies, as you'd bloody well hope! They are good, but not really 26k+ good though imo....there is the odd cheapy about, but if history is anything to go by, they'll have excellent residuals, so whilst an awful lot up front, you *should* get a good amount back at the end, I'm not rich enough to try it out though!

Right so about 20 posts on what I wanted NOT to happen has happened and there's been a typical oh I would never pay 28k for a new car I'd get this instead well tbh for 28k you could get a skyline and twin turbo it's face off to about 700bhp and it would probly do 0 60 in about 3 seconds but that's not relevant or particularly wise the fact is from a value for NEW car standpoint it's a very good car and I belive there isn't a NEW car faster than it on the 'ring for under it's price.

DOES it matter if the car is ~11 months old and covered ~9k miles? no.. :/ if he wants a car which does the ring in better time he will buy something TRACK based not a focus RS which IS overpriced.. say w/e you want i wont change my mind. :o

£30k for a used S3!! I understand its a premium car, but I'm loving the irony of posting that in a thread about the "overpriced" Focus RS...:D

Punctuation alert.

'Ring times, like a 0-60 times before it, are the new pointless performance comparison statistics which mean abosolutely nothing other than pub-bragging rights - frequently used by GTR owners to justify their purchase to Porsche owners at the moment.
Fact is the Megane R26R or Clio 200 would be right up the chuff of a new FRS on any B-road in the UK...I'm sure thats more relevant?

And anyway - this is all pointlessly irrelevant. If someone wants to spend £28k on a FRS, whats the problem? They're happy, we're happy not to buy one and spend £28k elsewhere, the world keeps on spinning.

If not extremely tacky, they're good cars - just a shame they didn't use the styling cues from the Mk1 FRS, which was spot on IMO.

well actually seeing as its a sports hatch i would argue both 0-60 and ring times to be quite relevant, also on all the b roads i know (which dont consist of continous snaking corners with no straights, the rs would say bye bye to a clio 200 in seconds. Fact is that although yes there is a video in which there is a clio behind a focus rs on a test track FULL of corners, on a straight the focus wins as well as up hills and seeing as real life roads dont join up at to the beginning after a mile or so im sorry i think that on a b road the focus would win (But hang on a second, i thought all indications of performance are worthless to you).
With regards to a megane R26R its hardly as practical as a focus rs, as the boot is a good 50 litres smaller and i personally wouldnt want one as a day to day drive., In comparison the focus rs does every thing a megane rs does and is 2k more (both from new) Plus it has all the comforts you could need.

Finally look at the following prices for fords of a similar type 2nd hand and it becomes not so much of a bad investment as you may think.

10 year old racing puma(120k miles on the clock) 4.5- 5k
focus st170 2004,5- 6k
and finally Mk1 rs's from 7 years ago command up to 14k so thats a decrease of 10k? (i think) in SEVEN years. however the MK2 rs is unlikely to do quite as well as that.

To the OP enjoy it if you get it just PLEASE get it in blue

I stand to be shot down but I think they are good value tbh in relation to many new cars

I wouldn't buy a new one but that is more a comment on buying new cars in general that this being bad value

Sorry but the crazy styling recaptures the Escort Cosworth and Sierra Cosworth days, in white or blue, it looks amazing!

Not something I'd be seen dead in personally, but I do have to admire their balls for coming out with something pre-chavved to that extent. I do quite like it, saw a lime green one the other day and it put a smile on my face
