Girlfriend spilled water on my PC, it's dead

Accidents happen, I'm sure you've messed up big time too
Personally I think coughing up £600 is quite reasonable.
your base unit isn't worth that second hand. And at worst the Case/optical/HHD/screen/keyboard/speakers etc are all fine.

If you have a mate's or work pc you can borrow - get an air duster to blow out any 'trapped' water, let the stuff dry and test each part.
As other have said it's most likely one or two bits that have died.

Just remember if you did it your self, you be in a worse situation.

Edit: For the replies I guess a lot of us have been in your situation one way or another.
And I understand the 'our money' issue - but sharing has many benifits, you 'might' be sharing an enjoyable evening for example

im guessing what everyone else said, just one thing is dead, used to have an open case pc (it overheated like a beast) spilled coke at it, it sparked shut itself down. i was thinking ****... its dead.

waited 2 days for it to dry out, turns out only 1 of the 512mb ram's died :) was chuffed to bits!

She dumped water all over your PC, you dump water all over her. It's only fair. And make sure she changes into a white t-shirt first. Then post pics to show justice has been served.

Take the 600 quid & rent Her a room with it then dry out your PC & carry on Gaming/Surfing & just Red button her if she calls.
If she had sex with your Brother or Father you could forgive her but some things you just can't forgive.

No No No :) You're going about it all wrong :) Act non-plussed about it but subtly keep dropping hints about cost etc. See it ias a chance to get some upgrades :p with her paying/helping with the costs.

Punch her in the ovaries, take the money and run.

But seriously, you could get a i7 bundle and replace the Mobo / CPU and RAM for a nice upgrade, that's really kind of her offering that much money!

I'm starting to see this as a blessing in disguise. I'm not believing her £600 'gift', but if I can get a 5870 out of her I'll buy the rest. Would also now be considerably easier to blag the need for a new PC. This might not be so bad after all.
