Got flashed by a GATSO.

Ive dived to the end coz |I'm tired.

But

when did it flash. if your in a car it flashes pretty much as soon as you go past the camera. in order to get your reg number. If it did the same to a HGV then surely it would only get the side of your trailer

Except, IIRC, it uses your numberplate to read your speed.. so won't read the speed til the whole thing's passed the camera :p

Gatso's work on radar not ANPR plus a friend of a friend tried to use up a film by driving past one time and time again at speed without a rear numberplate:D

Oh to be young again

Who said anything about ANPR?
If it's anything like speed camera vans, the speed detector aims at where the numberplate normally is. Since it can tell when something big like an HGV goes past, I imagine it alters its aim for where to get the speed from.

IT??

The op said he was flashed. So I assumed it was a GATSO as hand held devices dont flash

And GATSO's dont aim.

So its nothing like a detector van where there is a human being sorry operator who manually aims the speed reading device manually.

The reason why laser operators target the Numberplate is because it should be nearly vertical so they will get a much more accurate reading

On another note to the OP what does the Tacho say you may be able to use that as a defence if it reads lower than the gatso speed

HGV speed limits are one of those wonderfully retarded laws where if you obey them, you cause an obstruction, if you don't, you get punished.

For the want of a practical, evidence based road safety policy :(

Let's be honest though, who the heck is going to get aggressive against a HGV?

Just a thought... GATSO's are radar right? and calculate the speed by judging the radar being refelected from your vehicle...

If this is so... would the GATSO only start receiving these "reflected" radar when it starts hiting the back of the trailor...therefor only deciding the HGV's speed when the registration is in view...

From how i can see it.. if a really long object was to past a gatso as it's passing the gatso wont be able to decided it's speed as the radar will be reflected from the same spot constantly... untill the back of the object starts to move away... and thats when the reflected radar starts to change and it can calculate speed

Or i could be talking ****... therefor ignore me :)

As soon as it flashed I glanced at my speedo and cursed as I was doing 47-48 MPH so I'm bang to rights and not looking to contest this if / when it arrives. A "Fair Cop" as they say, despite no Coppers being involved! :D

You'd be surprised at the number of tin can drivers who try it on!

Incidentally, I travelled along the A556 a few days back and set my cruise to 35 MPH, two trucks overtook me and both got flashed......

Knowing my luck, I now know what to expect around the end of February!

Cheers. :(

Sorry. If it's any consequence, you could just ask your fleet manager if you've had a ticket? Also don't Stobart own their own trucks rather than lease them, so that shortens the time somewhat.

In any case the situation I posted is pretty damn unlikely. The turnaround for a reply to an S172 request at the camera partnership is usually only a couple of days.

Wasn't this a 40 limit? The typical speed for prosecution would be 46 so take into account speedo error and you should be safe. How worn were your tyres on that day?

I know of drivers who have had notification from the "Fleet dept" that they have a ticket within a few days so I'm got everything crossed that I've been lucky.

In my experience, tachographs have little "error" as such around that sort of speed, usually, if it reads 40 its doing 40 (I test this often at those road side speed check signs that give your speed.... :D)

Enforcement threshold is 57 in a 50, so unless your speedo is bang on accurate (it isn't) you should be fine.

Even with those Nazis who hide in the roadside "safety vans" ? - I think I'm screwed tbh... :o

They have a HGV sensitive one near The Belfry on the A446 Lichfield road. The standard limit is 50mph, obviously 40mph for HGVs.

It double flashed me a few weeks back as I went by at 43mph in my truck. I never got a ticket. :)

A bloke where I am working went through in his 18 tonner at 50mph and he got a fixed penalty ticket.

That road was, as you no doubt know, a 60 until last year. Another silly speed reduction for no reason, it's even as it it's that busy. Another sneaky one is further up the road where it goes back to 60 and there is a layby on the top of the hill. The speed nazis wait there to catch people overtaking trucks that are occupying the "crawler" lane. It's so obviously a revenue generator it's disgusting.

There's a haulage company on the same park as us and one of their drivers parked directly in front of the van for his rest period. When asked to move he just pointed to his tax disc and said "Make me" :D.

Nothing as yet, then again, I may have been caught in my car doing 58 in a 50 entering a stretch of roadworks on the A500 - today! :o:mad:

Sods law, I have another wait....

Where are they, between J16 and North Stoke? Google maps location please ;)

I tend to go to J15 and then A500 and almost straight onto the A50, but its worth knowing the van location for the future as it is tempting to break the limit on that stretch before you reach the 50 section in town.
