Last year I wanted a new hobby so I decided to join a shooting club and have had a couple of shoots so far.

They are usually held on MoD ranges that we hire from them and get to plink at 100, 200 and 300m pop up targets.

Last weekend I got to play with some impressive toys including a genuine Lee Enfield that was used in WWII and stamped 1942. Build quality was unbelieveable.

Here is me trying out the Accuracy International .308 which has incredible accuracy.

The range below is typical of what we use and runs to 300m.

Anyone else here a keen shooter ?

Also, does anyone who is know of a reputable dealer in antique firearms ? Specifically, I aim to own a Martini-Henry .45 rifle from the British colonial era.

Nuts. I didn't kow you could just pootle along to MOD ranges:)

I used to shoot in CCF. 22 rifles at our range and then we'd go on range days/competitions firing L98A1's and LSW's.

Splurging a whole clip fully auto across the target, hill behind and most of southern england couldn't be more manly. LSW's are fun, it's got a bipod FFS!

I've got a range near me...would be an interesting hobby. How much do licenses cost tho?

Police check should be a breeze as I'm fully checkout anyway..

The rifle itself is a club gun and a brand new AI would cost you around four thousand pounds. A good scope will add maybe another thousand on top of that but the scope on the one I am using is fixed at 6x.

I get ammo at a discount but 7.62 FMJ goes for between 40-80 pounds per 100 depending on the quality. I'm sure some of the more experienced shooters here will give better advice on that.

You can't just walk onto MoD land and shoot. We have an arrangement with them that is fully licensed and in line with the NRA.

I absolutely love to go shooting :) It's been all pistols and semi-auto SMGs so far. Not been for a while though so only got about 300 rounds under my belt in 2009 but we are hoping to go to one of the longer ranges and get some rifle time in this year.

So realistically all I would need would be a license, gun, cabinet and somewhere do shoot?

I assume so, I've not done it myself but I've had a look into it :p In this order as well : Somewhere to shoot, cabinet, license, gun. I believe that the club has to sign something saying that you're a member and that's the reason for you firearm :) You can fire weapons at a club without a licence I believe.

Love going to the range, though only used a glock19 the last few times. Need to find someone that owns some more interesting guns

I love browsing around all the deactivated gun websites, i want a good stash of ww2 guns.

i only 2000's chinese air rifle now lol so need to get buying.

If i were to pick any working rifle to have it would be the m1 garand.

Excellent! I was put off joining as I thought all they'd use were typical shotguns and antiquated flintlocks for some reason. :p

Think I might fire off a few emails when I'm next back on shift. :)

I thought they would be boring rifles as well Soviet.

The AI rifles were previously used by the tac team and were donated at the end of their service lives even though they are still perfectly usable, very reliable and can castrate a gnat at 500m.

I'm suddenly interested in shooting as a hobby too - anyone have a good list of gun clubs around the country? (particularly near Manchester or London)
