Bad Company 2

my mate is getting this game. he has a 17" monitor and is thinking of buying a 5770 1gb. how many fps would he get maxed on with 4AA 16af in D11?

My single 5870 gets around 50-70FPS @ DX11 8AA, 16AF and everything elsed maxed including HBOA.

But once things start exploding it gets some nasty 30FPS dips when your close to large explosions etc. But if you bang it down to DX9 you can get a solid 100+FPS.

I'm getting around the same with same settings peeks at around 180 fps sometimes.

Seems these 5870's are now proving to be worth the investmant.:D

Must start to look into watercooling these cards, they get mighty hot at those settings.:eek:
 
Was discussing this in the "Iv'e got my 5850" thread, but thought I would move here.

Got my 5850, running at 950, but am seeing pretty much no improvement over my 4870.

Didn't realise this game actually supported DX11 wil reading this thread.

Anyway, the card is running better than the 4870, as I can tell by settings/vs performance in Crysis (though still not quie what I would have hoped for)

But with BC2, just not seeing the improvements I should.

With spec in sig, I was kind of expecting FPS to be hovering around 60, but it's around the same 40 FPS I had with my 4870.

Suggestions?

i'm only peaking at 140 at the same settings....i just dunno how i'm gonna survive :D

this card is now proving it's worth :)
 
Was just in case it was somehow interfering with performance

And I actually just remembered I am not using fraps but the similar thing that comes with MSI Afterburner.
 
Can anyone give me some Eyefinity numbers? I've tried running it on a single OC'd 5850 (rig in sig) and had to sacrifice quite a lot of IQ to get playable. 2nd 5850 coming today though. :D

BTW, FRAPS goes mental and uses up 50% CPU quite often. You definitely know when it's happened on a dual core, quad core may be more subtle and cause you to think something else is wrong...
 
i've only had fraps cause issues in dirt 2 it'll half my frame rate if i turn it on lol

but in pretty much all other games i've had no issues on my main machine or on my spare dual core one
 
Looks like the performance is back to being torrid, I was online last night finally (after PB probs) and its not playable in my view with the odd slowdown here and there. For reference I was running at 1920 x 1200 with 16x AA and 8x AA.

Thing is, even when I turn this down its still not really smooth, this is under Windows 7. I did try it on XP and it runs perfectly obviosuly without any AA.

I was wondering, as I know there were threads a while ago saying that to run a game under vista results in ~15% performance decrease when compared to XP, is this still the case with 7?

As mentioned before when I came out of the game 7 was saying that the computer was running slow and did I want to turn off Aero etc etc lol.

Last question I guess would be if it is at all possible to force it to use DX 9 under Windows 7?

Finally, I am going to try my bro's 5850 tonight see how that goes.

Go to the folders My Documents->BFBC2

Go open settings.ini with notepad or some text editor.

Change value of DxVersion = Auto to DxVersion = 9

Save the ini file.

Running the game at 1920x1200, VSYNC is on and i average 40-50fps.

I think the game runs very smooth.
 
I'm running at 1920x1200, 16xAF 2xAA, HBAO on and am getting 40-60 FPS. Plays very nicely even on my HD4870. I am eyeing up a 5850 though...*shh! the missus is coming!*
