Please recommend car for my girlfriend

Basically she doesn't want to be spending out £100 here or there to keep it running.
Unfortunately this is a fact of motoring you just won't ever get away from.
I understand the desire to avoid genuinely unreliable cars, but at the end of the day they are mechanical devices, and thwey can and do go wrong which will cost money to fix.

go and check out piston heads, cracking site, seen tones of vehicles around the 5k mark, Focus is something i would recommend, im currently looking at the 2006-2007 model 2.0 TDCI, or the Focus 2.5 ST :)

Think he's made it perfectly clear, he wants a Focus :)

The difference is massive though. It would be like being torn between a 520d and an M5.

The 1.8 or 2.0 Focus sits nicely if you just want something that's not stupidy slow and handles nice.

The Focus ST does have high running costs; 20MPG-25MPG average for a start.

im open to suggestions, just want a fun car, but not to heavy on the fuel

To make a car really fun you have to drive it like you stole it, thus fuel economy goes up the spount.

We can't spec you a hypercar with 0-60 in 2 secs, 4 sec 1/4 mile, seating for 12 obese adults, free servicing and warranty for 20yrs, plus a purchase cost after scrappage of £2000. Ask a question we can give you an answer to!

**** fuel economy, buy the ST.

The money saved in depreciation by buying a more desirable, sporty model (assuming you buy wisely and secondhand) will probably go a long way towards offsetting the fuel economy differences anyway.

I do less than 10k a year, and I worked out that its probably cheaper to drive around in an ST than it would have been in the bog standard 2.0 Focus, over 3 years.

Some of my car is financed yes, but it is pointless for me to tell you what I pay etc. as it all depends on your own circumstances, size of your deposit, price of the car etc.

There is no way I'd recommend spending £10k on a car without having at least £4k to put down on it first, or you could find yourself in negative equity pretty quickly, if the used values suddenly plummet.

Might I suggest you start your own thread if you want to discuss it anymore though, I think we've derailed this thread enough as it is.
