The Official Football Manager 2010 Thread

Picked this up last week, the last time I played was when it was the SI Champo... I must say i'm enjoying it.. proper hooked again!
 
Are people still using SortItOutSi for kits/comp logos etc?

I've just formatted and reinstalled FM2010, but their downloads are all flagging as having trojans in them with Avast...??
 
Well done very well in my first season as stoke, in feb sitting 7th in the table with very little transfer activity... is there any list of good players that dont cost the earth?
 
Lukaku has become a monster in the new patch!!

hat trick on his debut for Real Madrid (he's 16!) 19 goals in 15 U19 games, 7 goals in 3 international U21 games.
 
Bit of advice needed.
On my Man United game i bought Hamsik but i can't get him to play as well as i'd like. So far I'm at the end of October, he played in ~12 games. He's rating is always just under 7, only managed 1 assist and hasn't scored yet. Playing him on right CM as advanced playmaker (attack).

Any ideas?

You might want to try the spreadsheet I mentioned a while back; you put a player's name in the section that relates to his position on the pitch and then enter all his numbers. The spreadsheet then tells you the three best roles and duties for that player. :)

If you can't find it email me in trust and I'll forward you a copy. :)
 
I just had the most epic football manager experience ever!!

I took over as the Cameroon manager after the previous one got sacked for being crap in the African nations qualifying.

I've managed the USA and Brazil but didn't do anything decent with either of them so didn't think much of Cameroons chances, at least the expectations were lower

I scraped through the group stage with a 94th min winner in the last match

The next 3 matches were amazing, 1-0 up against Russia till the 88th min, won in the 116th min

2-0 up against Brazil till they turned it around to 3-2, we equalized in the 92nd min and won on penalties

1-1 vs Portugal till a 91st min winner from eto

And finally beating Argentina 9-8 on pens, I even had a 120th min goal disallowed

 
^^ WHAT?!?! Cameroon won the world cup?!?!!? CRAZY!

Im on my 3rd season at newcastle, after winning the championship by 6 points in the first season my expectations were a good place in the prem and i got 7th! (which gave me european football this season by fortune of league and fa cup winners). Now im my 3rd season im realising i didnt make good enough signings for my left back and central midfield (alan smith just wont go which is annoying me) though im still basking in the glory of Milevskyi on a free :D

Tempted to pack up the game and take my mums new local team (st albans) from the lowly bss all the way to the prem....
 
I'm coming to the end of my second season with Forest. I made it into the Premiership via the playoffs in the first season but I'm 5 points above the relegation zone and my first team striker (and top scorer in the Premiership!!) is injured for 3 weeks :eek:.

Can anyone help me with a couple of things?....

Firstly, in the whole of the two seasons, I have score only 1 goal from a corner! How on earth can I improve that?? I've set specific instructions on 8 players to go forward which include short option, pressure keeper, near post flick on (which worked great in FM09), go forward and attack from deep but nothing ever works. I'd also add that I don't ever recall scoring from a cross but perhaps that's because of the huge number of corners that occur due to failed crosses.

Secondly, which relates to the above, how can I get the players crossing the ball early. In every instance of getting the ball down the wing, they take it to the by-line and try to cross it which 90% of the time results in a corner. I have never seen one of my players pull the ball back and try to cross, cross the ball early or play it to the full back behind who crosses it. How can I change that? (My wingers have decent crossing ability)
 
I need a decent left back backup to evra for my man utd save. Gill accepted a 11mill bid on my behalf for fabio so i'm stuck with o'shea if anything were to happen to evra.
 
Who have you guys got as your Assistant Manager?

I hired Neri as mine this season as Pat Rice had a hissy fit and quit. Neri has been fantastic, tactical genius!! Unbeaten so far this season. Top of the league by 12 points.

I want Ezio Sella as mine. He's got 17 and 18 for judging player ability and potential respectively. He's also got 20 for tactical knowledge so I can trust advice from him in matches or trust him if I holiday or get banned from the touchline. :D

Unfortunately though in 10.3 SI have made it so that assistant managers are less likely to accept new contracts that effectively demote them. This is what I did with Mike Phelan; offered him a new contract as a coach.
