Nokia N900

i use n900 as my day to day phone, i'd say i do more then just make calls and text and i have to say n900 is the best for for my needs. Best web experience on a mobile, best video play back, i down load and drop and watch. get 2 of my email account pushed to the phone. loads of apps and customisation. just like anyphone it will have bugs and will get fixed with updates

well, 3 months now with the N900.

Apps I particularly use:

Conversations desktop widget. this is a must and I like the recent upgrades
Forca weather. pretty accurate, moreso than most.
Personal dataplan monitor. does what it says on the tin.
Dr Nok Snes. Loving the retro gaming on the go.
Witter. Decent twitter client
ecoach. Used for recording my biking stats.
Flashlight. Awesome torch

I want more levels for angry birds as well, this is annoying but other than that I have no complaints tbh. In 4 months I have never thought 'oh, Imreally need portrait mode for this' and have rarely browsed in portrait. Buying a second battery and a plug-in external charger was just the way forward and given the extra advantage of letting the device restart regularly, something it likes.

I am sorry to say this but a word of warning - MMS will never officially be supported by Nokia, nor will general portrait mode (one can assume portrait texting in that), in addition the community just isnt really creating applications at any speed all in all quite big issues for me, might end up selling mine now, such a pity. Nokia are dropping the ball.. again. I will wait for the next firmware update which is supposedly imminent but am not expecting much.

I know there is an mms app for sending stuff but im not too bothered. I rarely used it with my N95.

MeeGo is apparently being developed for the N900 which some folk say is good for the phone's future.

I've had mine about a month and I love it.

I am using fMMS and it works fine, that is one of the reasons they are not developing MMS as this does the job fine.

No it doesnt. Its not integrated with the conversations app/other SMS's You hav e to connect to a seperate internet connection to receive MMS's. Its just not an easy solution, like MMS should be.

lol are you still complaining about this chrips7 . it cant be that hard to click on another app can it? i actually like the fact its seperate the only thing i'd like is auto download and send.

how many MMS do you send and recieve each month and be honest?

 When have I been complaining about this in the past? This is the first time I have heard that MMS wont be officially supported by Nokia - and after the implication since announcement that it would be supported. Very disingenuous from Nokia.

The point is, it isnt 'that' easy, I said before, I have to manually connect to the internet using a different connection to my default just to receive MMS's. On top of its bugs and lack of integration its not a viable alternative.

How many MMS's I send or receive is of no relevance, its an important and basic function I expect of a GSM/3G device. Ive had the N900 since release day, its many issues (lack of Ovi support, lack of full Ovi maps, lack of MMS, lack of portrait mode, lack of general Nokia support, lack of Ovi store paid apps, lack of bug fixes, poor media player, lack of apps and lack of community created apps (including a broken micro USB port)_ have now got to me. All this after massive enthusiasm for the device including the suggestion of applications/solutions. Nokia AGAIN have acted very poorly to the end consumer. The N900 could have been an awesome device with Nokia support - but its been severely lacking, unless the next update is a BIG one (massively unlikely) the N900 is a dead duck. She shall be off to the scrapheap called ebay unfortunately.

rant over.

aint chrisp 7 ur maemo.org user? if not sorry man wrong person.

yes but you get notification as normal and just connect from list to mms apn it downloads and you switch back to other connection.

i'v not had any problems with mine thats why i have not been moaning about it as i would normally. are you using lastest version?

yep it is!:) I created a thread on there to confirm whether or not MMS would be supported and found out it wasnt.

yeah Im using the latest one - the issue being that for Tmob I have to connect to the internet using a non standard connection just to receive MMS's - v annoying. Its shouldnt be this way on a £500 device! What are Nokia thinking.

none standard? t-mobile already has MMS APN most phones automatically connect to it download. with fmms all you are doing is connecting manually when you want to view that mms for the 1st time.

all UK networks use seperate APN for MMS.

hopefully frals will get it automated, he has done a great job.

I still love the phone, it's a great piece of kit but it was never going to be a finished article. So fMMS isn't totally integrated? I upload photos directly to facebook/photobucket instead and send a link.

Nokia have released this as a big beta test - a computer in your pocket that can access the web via 3G as well as wifi and they threw the phone gear in as well. It has been a whole world of throw it out there and see what happens. I had to laugh at the comment about lack of programs and apps - there are loads and certainly nothing I miss.

+1

They are still developing it any way so integration is probably somewhere on the list.

I'm inclined to agree, the 'once in a blue moon' i needed MMS came up a week or so ago and for some reason fMMS wouldn't work/install for me (or installed but don't see it anywhere) do you need to restart after installing? Don't think i've restarted for over a month...

It's not a huge issue for me, but i can see where Christo is coming from as its a huge overslight on Nokia's part. I think once MeeGo comes out on another handset we'll see more apps, until then things are fairly limited. I've also found that quite good - not having to try 3-4 rubbish apps until you find 1 you like, like i had to with Symbian ;)

Except its a clunky workaround and irritating.

why? the only thing a user needs to do when he/she recieves mms notification is connect to MMS connection and open the app then it downloads the message and image. you can then disconnect.

Its that simple, if something like this is too much work then i think you got the wrong phone.

Yes i understand that nokia should have done it but they didnt and i have complained about few things but mms is not something that is oftern used in this day and age. People use email attachments more. i get a mms once a blue moon so i and send one once a blue moon so its not a problem for me. some people talking like they are missing sms, now that would be something to moan about.

It may be fine for you, but its not fine for others. Accept it.;)

Ok i made a video to show you how easy it is,

i was waiting ages and then stopped recording and i got the mms then quickly started to record.

I then closed the pop up and switched APN and opened fmms app, i got a text from my mate saying i owe him 20p lol. Any ways for some reason it said failed to download mms but it didnt but this is the 1st time i saw this error and i tested many times.

just wanted to show others how easy it is. oh i was using my xbox 360 webcam on pc so had to lower brightness on phone LOL
