A businessman has been jailed for three years for masterminding a scam which saw tens of millions of battery hen eggs sold as free-range or organic.
...
Officials estimate that as many as 100 million eggs were falsely labelled.
...
Judge Hooper said Owen's business had made very substantial profits at the expense of consumers who believed they were buying free-range eggs. He said: "Imprisonment there must be, because the offences are plainly so serious that only a sentence of imprisonment will suffice. This was all a carefully-planned and executed fraud by false accounting. By greed, you have corrupted and destroyed the once-legitimate business which you have known all your life." (BBC online)
Hopefully Mr Owen will get to meet many interesting people in the showers of HM Prisons who will be happy to teach him all about being shafted.

I think the fact that you want someone to be raped says something more about your character than his...

Clearly the crime of the century.. obviously worse than may other crimes that get shorter sentences.

You may scoff at the nature of the crime, but it's pretty terrible that he was willing to deceive thousands of people and exploit their good nature.

Who is scoffing at the crime? No one.

Although to suggest that criminals can't wait to get his hands on him - ROFL.

Is this a wind up? Do you really think the other prisoners will care about a bloke who ran a chicken scam?

*facepalm*

He's a numpty and posts sexed up drivel.

Its that simple.

Animal welfare is usually a secondary concern for the majority of people buying free range.

So you are seriously saying that people pay more money for free range eggs just for the taste?

People buy free range eggs because they have seen or been educated about how poorly battery hens are kept.

Yes

People pay more for better tasting products, doesn't matter whether it's eggs, beef or carrots.

It would take a very fine tuned palate to tell the difference I would say.

It's not a challenge I would like to take.
I pay more because of the atrocious way battery hens are kept, farm eggs are even better if you can get them.
