People that don't say "thank you" when you hold the door for them

Zebra crossings are what do my head in. fair enough you have to stop but it's still nice to say thanks for the driver which had to change what they were doing to let you past. I never see people say thanks for letting them across.

i hate people who dont say thanks and therefore always say it myself

i nearly always hold doors open if i see someone behind me

saying that though i once had ''i only held the door open'' barked back at me after saying thanks to someone :/

if you get someone like that, just do monkey noises and the monkey arms REALLY loud at them :D

i hate it when drivers dont feel the need to indicate when theres no other cars nearby.. so i stand for 5 seconds waiting for them to go past when all of a second they turn the corner!!

i never say "thank you" always with earphones.. dont want to look stupid screaming "THANK YOU!!!!1!!111" x]

Do you do it because that's the type of person that you are, or do you do it to be thanked?

i thought that was clear from the first post? :)

if i ever do it.. i never even care about the "thanking bit" really why would you? :)

I once had a woman who took offense and told me she was quite capable of opening a door herself.

Oh yeah, not many things worse than rude people but militant feminists are one of the few. should have shouted catch and slammed it in her face.

honestly some people in here, I can tell you are all a bunch of socially inept forumites. I am pretty geeky but if someone holds a door open for you then you say thanks or atleast look them in the eye, not put your head down and storm through. I don;t want some kind of reward, just not to be treated like ****.

To me, the first post answered its own question really.

If I'm going to hold a door a open, it's because I want to, not because I want people to thank me for it.

When someone holds the door for me a normally say cheers or thanks, i also normally hold doors for people if they're close enough, im not bothered about being thanked. If it bothers you so much dont hold the door for them in the future.

Agreed with the commend about driving. Also, giving way for other cars when you don't need to etc. Its not a major issue where i live but it happens, its annoying.

Send them back!

Oh I beg your pardon, I seem to have wondered into the wrong thread. *leaves thread, saying thank you to the door attendant*

I think that's too much of a broad view. I would believe that others, like me, do it because it's the type of person they are. However, one does expect and appreciate thanks for doing so. The action isn't to "seek" thanks - it's simply polite to give it.

The same goes for boarding the bus, for example. I may wave someone ahead of me even though I got the stop first, saying "Go ahead mate". It's just the type of person I am...I don't care if they pay and sit before me, but a "thanks mate" is just the polite social response.
