Zebra crossings are what do my head in. fair enough you have to stop but it's still nice to say thanks for the driver which had to change what they were doing to let you past. I never see people say thanks for letting them across.
And attractive women?
I only hold it for old people / people with pushchairs, or people who look like they'll say thanks![]()
I hope I'm not the only person who laughed at this.![]()

i hate people who dont say thanks and therefore always say it myself
i nearly always hold doors open if i see someone behind me
saying that though i once had ''i only held the door open'' barked back at me after saying thanks to someone :/
Do you do it because that's the type of person that you are, or do you do it to be thanked?
I once had a woman who took offense and told me she was quite capable of opening a door herself.
i thought that was clear from the first post?![]()
if i ever do it.. i never even care about the "thanking bit" really why would you?![]()

I think that's too much of a broad view. I would believe that others, like me, do it because it's the type of person they are. However, one does expect and appreciate thanks for doing so. The action isn't to "seek" thanks - it's simply polite to give it.
The same goes for boarding the bus, for example. I may wave someone ahead of me even though I got the stop first, saying "Go ahead mate". It's just the type of person I am...I don't care if they pay and sit before me, but a "thanks mate" is just the polite social response.
