"I'm Staying with My Boys..." The Heroic Life of Sgt. John Basilone, USMC:

This is a newer book on Basilone, I don't know if the series is using this is a reference or not though. It is the "Basilone family approved biography" according to the website. Inside the book it mentions that the author is "working on the film adaptation of the story."

Brotherhood of Heroes: The Marines at Peleliu, 1944--The Bloodiest Battle of the Pacific War:
This book appears to be mostly about K/3/5, which is Sledge's company of Marines.

Hugh Ambrose has authored the official tie-in book to the series, which follows the stories of the five men featured in the series. It is set to publish in the UK in March 2010.

Thanks for theese links, i read a lot on ww2, though mainly on the european theatre of operations, id like to learn a bit more of the pacific theatre.

Id really like to see the pacific when its aired, sadly though i cant afford a sky sub, ill wait for the blu ray release, really enjoyed BoB, the first blu ray i bought.

a few reviews suggesting it takes 3 episodes to get going, whereas BOB had one for training and then straight into D-Day with a bang.

Still cant wait :)

Leckie's book matches well with, he does not particularly focus heavily on the fighting in his book, a lot of it is based around his antics in Australia and an island called Pavavu on which the Marines were based before Peleliu.

ah right, i've had that on the shelf for ages and never read it. Have read Sledges book and dont remember too much light and happiness about that one, its a quick trip through the unpleasantness of Basic and the trip to Auz, straight to Peleliu from what i remember.

That was interesting, can't really compare it to BoB after watching just the first episode but it was very good. Visually it looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait for more.
