PC gaming 2009 =

11 billion in 2008 , up to 13.1 billion in 2009 , and remember to factor in the recession. Not bad growth figures overall it would appear.

And yet we're still treated to crappy console ports.

Thank god for companies like Valve and Blizzard.

those look like pretty good figures - especially as there is growth. digital distribution is the way forwad especially as steam is the only drm to actually work. i couldnt find much console sales figures for 2009 as comparison but i saw that total console hardware, software and accessorys in the us alone took 19.66 billion

and to think ea, microsoft, ubisoft etc etc laughed at valve over the steam digitial distro idea when they asked for co-production dev money.

would like to know the console figures

EDIT: Update: For the sake of comparison, DFC Intelligence estimated that the worldwide gaming market--including console hardware--would hit $57 billion in 2009

Steam sales + WOW will be most of that. How much of it was actual retail or non Steam sales DD I wonder?

Consoles sales were $57B for the same period which puts it into perspective!

no the difference is that everybody has broadband now that can download any game in a couple of hours

Hmm, it's up and down. Recent releases havn't been suffering from day-0 piracy, so even though the game files are available they're not playable.

When it comes down to it, people will buy good games, and pirate the crap ones.

The figure is revenue though, if companies could get away with ripping off PC gamers like they do console gamers (£40 for a game, hehehe!) then the figures might not look so far apart.
