*** Final Fantasy XIII ***

not really an easy game to make a demo of, the whole game needs to be played really.

They did make a demo in Japan, it's just Chapter 1 of the game :p

Which is probably the best method to be honest. They should probably release the english version to PSN/Live.

Edit: Actually I heard the demo was 8GB or something, maybe that's why they didn't.

The Cutscenes are just amazing. Me and the wife love it!
My girlfriend can only moan when I play Final Fantasy, then again the moaning is less than when I was playing Bioshock 2 :p

All this talk has made me want to play some more, but I have to wait until tonight :(

i miss limit breaks

I dont think with the combat system limit breaks would fit in well, unless ofcourse they had some sort of auto stagger affect.

Same with the old summon systems, i prefer the fact summons are now a lot more tactical and need to be used sparingly but when they are used they are effective.

on a side note has anyone got the gold trophy for having knowledge of 100 enemy units yet as it seems like such a simple trophy to achieve and i libra every enemy with a ??? to try unlock it, ive only just started chapter 8 though and i think ive got about 70-80 units.

GTanny, I know they woudn't really work with this type of combat system, it would just be cool to have implemented something simalir.

Strife, I too miss the weapons, I did youtube Mission 63 or whatever it was (hardest boss in the game) and was dissapointed to see such a weak looking opponent, I mean you compare that to the Ultimate bosses in the previous FF's makes you lol

how the hell did you get those stats so high, omfg

Just used enough CP to max out level 8 Crystarium, and then did farming, in the level mentioned earlier on. Found an even better one. Once I used the one described here, I got my stats up a bit and there is 2 huge creatures fighting in Level 11 that you can beat for 6600CP (I think) per fight (50 seconds or less), you walk away a bit and comeback and they have respawned.

Also maxed out the weapons for a few characters (used up all my components). These add 100-200 to Strength or Magic.

Finally, the disappointing part, Continuing Level 11 ends up netting you another 300K or so Crystals (in mandatory fights). I had 800K each so I avoided some battles thinking it was enough to reach Level 9.
When I unlocked Level 9 and tried to upgrade each character's 3 roles to maximum, I was about 150K short :(

In hindsight I should have farmed another 30-60 mins.

For people wondering about Limit Breaks, there is something almost compariable.

On the 9th tier of the Crystarium each character gets a special ability in their primary spec.

Take Lights for example:

Army of One - Hits 11 times for OK damage and increases the chain level very VERY quickly (should only be used on a broken or nearly broken enemy)

Whereas Fangs:

Highwind - Hits for an INSANE amount but clears the chain guage.

So far I've found Lights to be the most useful, get an enemy to 99% on the break guage then hit Ao1, it will break the enemy and raise the chain % stupidly quickly meaning you do much more damage for the duration of the break.

All tier 9 abilities take up the entire ATB guage but are also spammable.

Is there any female character boob wobble-age?

Not really, the only female character with particularly big norks is only in it for a few minutes. All the female main characters are pretty well proportioned, apart from their shoulders which tend to make their heads look too big, also their limbs are a bit too long and thin but that's pretty much par for the course.

My friend tells me this game is awful and he is a massive FF fan, completes each one several times over.

However whilst I read a lot of opinions on here before release saying it was linear and awful and having heard what I have from others, I can't help but be tempted for a nice storyline and fit women. I don't so much mind games that are relatively simple as in getting older I have gotten worse at games and find I have nowhere near as much patience with them.

Given what I've said above, is it worth me buying this? Or should I just wait and borrow it off someone.

I'm a FF fan, been playing them for a long time now. I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate 13 like your friend does, but it's not doing much for me. To be honest, so many things have been changed, or flat out removed, that I barely recognise it as a FF title at all, and I'm forcing myself to continue playing it. I'm enjoying chapter 11, but I can't see me being bothered enough to finish the game. It's not a bad rpg, but it is my least liked Final Fantasy.

My advice would be to preferably borrow it off someone first, or failing that rent it.

If he is such a huge fan he should have read what the directors are aiming for in this game and the future of Final Fantasy and shouldn't have been surprised by the type of game it is.

It is by FAR an "awful" game, the graphics are next gen, the storyline is good from the start and gets better, the cut scenes have replaced the text scrolling which makes it look like it takes a lot of your time out of the game but it doesn't really.

I don't see how you could label this an awful game and what you want in this game that was in previous FF's that would make it better?

I do not agree the linear style makes it worse than being a big free roaming area, it keeps the game straight forward, you can still grind/farm if you wish, the game opens up for tons of side quests later.

I love this game :)

You'd be surprised. The vast majority of FF gamers (and gamers in general) will not research their hobby online. They may get general snippets of information from friends through word of mouth, or facebook, or see screenshots of it in a magazine, but people like us who visit gaming websites and post on forums are a minority.

It all boils down to personal opinion and taste. Not everyone is going to agree on 13, whether they're lifetime fans of the series or just started playing since 10. Regardless of my views on this game (which are just my opinions) I'd say this is the most devisive one to date. It was -never- going to please all the fans. It's very marmite in that regard.

He told me today that it is starting to improve for him. He only hates it for the fact he feels as though he is literally running around a corridor, whilst on FF games of old you used to be able to walk out onto the world map and explore.

He's basing his opinion on the game in itself though, rather than comparing it to the previous games.

You will be in Hope's House (There is a save point there) As you beat a set of soldiers, another one appears a few metres away, repeatedly. They drop the 2 types of chips quite often. Just don't exit the area as the level will end.

Now buy the 2 types of components, and power up your weapons.

what two types??

2 types of upgrade called "Bones" and "Bolts" (The icons next to them define what they are).

Imagine I have 20 bones that are 20 XP each and 3 bolts worth 200 XP each.
bones add small amount of XP but (after adding a certain amount to a weapon) increase an Xp multiplier on the weapon, that multiplies subsequent items you add to the weapon.

Adding 10 Bones may increase the XP of the weapon by 200, but more importantly, it will increase the multiplier on the weapon (in increments) to 1.5, 1.75, 2.0, 3.0. Maybe 10 bones increases it to 1.5. Then the next 10 bones you add will actually be worth 30XP each (1.5 x 20). Now if you add a bolt then that will increase your XP by the same rate BUT that will decrease your multiplier in reverse, to the bones.

Bottom line, put 10-30 cheapo (in terms of XP) bones on a weapon, get to x3, then get some expensive bolts (in terms of XP) and add them. Then your multiplier is probably back down to x1(the default) but you got a bonus from adding the bolts. If you added the bolts first then the the bones you would have added less XP to your weapon, even though you used the same items.

Edit: 2 attempts at this post and it barely makes sense to me!! Someone with the official guide will probably be able to explain this better.
