Heyas, I currently have a iPhone on a £45\month tarrif, which I do not use all of the free texts\calls, mainly use my phone for calling the states and internet, vaguely happy with the phone, somethings work well, somethings don't. But I wouldn't mind a new toy, I have options which are as follows:

  • Keep my iPhone, do an insurance job on it so I get a clean one, unlock it, switch to t-mobile lower band tarrif (£15, tinternet + US\Canada booster)
  • Get a milestone, which I do like the look of especially with the physical keyboard, I know there are some niggles with the current version with MP3 playback, but lower specs on the phone, this'll cost me £35\month (tinternet + US\Canada booster)
  • Same tarrif as above, but the Desire, no physical keyboard, which I'd prefer, as I'm more acustom to using one on the work BB - better hardware, but owing to the larger screen, poorer battery life? Sense UI looks purdy too.
  • Same tarrif as above, but a Bold 9700, nice looking phone, great physical keyboard - but are there apps to back it up? I know there is a app on the android which is simular to the only one I really use on my iphone (camerabag) - is there anything good on the BB marketplace?

Any input helpful.

Thanks

Are you that petty you'd commit insurance fraud to get a 'clean' iPhone? Seriously?

I doubt many people here will want to be party to fraud.

To be fair, my iPhone has already got a cracked back and dust under the screen which are both handset replacement worthy issues, but I've just not bothered to call it in - so it wouldn't essentially be commiting fraud.

Well if its handset replacement worthy then just call it in and get them to replace or fix it??...insurance fraud isnt smart;)

As I said, they're minor things which haven't altered the use of the phone - so I hadn't bothered calling them in, if the screen was cracked I'd have called it. But they're minor, but the handset does get replaced... Maybe "an insurance job" was a bit misworded. But I am able to get a replacement handset because of the faults which my current phone has. :p

And it looks like a pretty unanimous vote for the Desire. I'll see if I can get my hands on one to play. Although from looking about the t-mobile\vodafone\o2\orange stores, they seem to have very little in the way of demo android phones. :/

As others have said:

1. Don't commit fraud (or even joke about it if you want people to help! :))
2. Go for the Desire, or BB9700 if you like a physical keyboard.

I'm an ex iPhone owner (owned both the 3G and the 3GS) and a current owner of the Milestone. Come April 6th I intend to purchase a Desire, without hesitation.

The iPhone made a great toy, meant I only had to carry one device for my day to day use and looked great. After the novelty of the app store wore off and I purchased a Zune HD I was left with a lackluster phone.

Having been caught up on all the Droid hype, I decided to switch over to Android to experience life on the "open" source side. After umm'ing and ahh'ing over the Milestone or the Hero, I decided to pick up the Milestone due to fairly decent keyboard and the Batman-esque looks.

I've had the Milestone for a few months and all in all it's been a mixed bag. Internet browsing (until the 2.0.1 update) has been flawless, the loudspeakers fairly impressive and the day to day performance has been quite snappy. The battery life on the other hand's been fairly poor, I get a days use out of it at most. I also seem to have issues with the touchscreen during calls (although this could be down to my inability to hold a phone properly).

I've always been a fan of HTC devices ever since I got my TyTN II, they're one of the few companies that have made WinMo 6 worth using outside of business function. Having seen the Android UI refinements in Sense 2.1 and the quality of the hardware, I think the Desire is going to be the Android handset (especially what with the Nexus One not out in the UK still).

But that's just my 2 cent's ; )

The proximity sensor on the Milestone disables the screen during a call when the phone is held to your head so you shouldn't have issues.

Shouldn't is the key word there. It could just be that my head prefer's the tapered iPhone over the manly angles of the Milestone...

- i hate iphones
- never played with a Milestone
- HTC desire looks fantastic
- BB 9700 is awesome and i currently own one, very different to a HTC or Iphone, if you dont want all the jazz then then i recommend, if you want something like the iphone then the Desire is gotta be the way to go
