Yes, this is a rant, if you don't like it, hit back.

Why oh why are there people out there who appear to find it an offence to their heterosexuality to be overtaken, or sometimes even to witness an overtake?

This morning was a prime example, I was on a B road, an NSL B road, a straight NSL B road, following some idiot in a Discovery who found it adequate to do 30-35MPH, in the dry.

Not that this is typically a problem on a straight, empty, two way road. It's clear, so I make my intention to pass (edge into the middle of the road, indicating), and then begin to pass. Once about 25% of my car is along side the idiot, he decides that being overtaken must mean that he is about to lose his wife, kids, family, dog, penis, whatever, and tries to edge me off the road.

So, other than this making me want to chin the idiot at the next junction, what EXACTLY did it acheive?

Morning Britain, so glad I'm still here

some people really hate bieng overtaken, i was heading down a 60mph road with a guy in front doing about 30. perfectly clear to overtake him so i pulled out and as i got next to him he then decided to speed up, he was perfectly happy sat at 30 when someone was behind him.

It is odd isn't it, happened to me on the way home yesterday. Going down a dual carriageway, 2 cars almost next to each other going 35mph, this is a 40 zone. I snake past them both, making sure there is loads of room and indicating appropriately.

I see as I am going back into the right lane (turning right at roundabout) the guy swerves into the left lane and tries to overtake, his POS care can't get back infront so he stays in the outside lane and tries to overtake me on the roundabout.

He doesn't but when we get off the roundabout he is behind me and it is gridlock in front, but wont accept that so overtakes a massive load of traffic and barges his way in at the front to prove some kind of point.

People feel you are insulting them I suppose, you are saying that they are going slow, but if they are going slow what can you do.

Yep I had this the other day, a diesel Freelander took offence to me overtaking and I saw plumes of smoke emitted from his exhaust as I was passing. Fortunately I didn't really have any trouble passing anyway :p

I tend to just wait behind them as 9 times out of 10, you can guarantee they will be on your arse wanting to do 40 in the next 30 zone.

i overtook someone last week doing 28, there were 2 cars coming the other way but they wernt close to be worried about(even for my fiesta) so when i pull back on to our side of the road the 2 cars to past, the first one fine the second one is a woman who starts flashing her lights and give me the finger :O i dont think she could even see me do the overtake.

another i remember was a year or so ago on the same road, i overtook a guy doin 29, once i get past he decides to sit on my bumper flashing his lights all the way to the end of the road till we turn different ways. i just flicked my mirror up and ignored him :p i had a fealing he didnt like being overtake by a 1.25 fiesta.

Good lad, just stick to the left and let the big boys pass. :p

I meant I do overtake people who drive comically slow on dual carriageways and roads where overtaking is safe but none of them have done anything about it....yet :p

Yep i've had them all including someone trying to chase me down after passing him in an NSL.

I really used to offend people when i overtook them in the MX-5, don't think they liked the idea of a homo-gay car going faster than they could.

Never really had too many issues since getting the Passat, don't think people want to argue with a sizable chuck of iron.

I can't say I like being overtaken, especially when I'm giving my Mum a lift and she slaps me with her ring hand if I drive 1 mph over the limit (she watches the dial like a hawk) and some rude boy chav slowly overtakes with his 206 & all I can do it watch. But at the same time I would never edge out in-front of them or speed up (that's just naughty),

Sunday night I witnessed the slowest overtake in my life - 2 Arctic's on the A34 (one UK mail the other TNT) no word of a lie it must have been 8 minutes before the TNT Arctic slowed down to let the UK Mail pass, it was like battle of the currier (next week will be DHL Vs Parcel-force)

I guess they still don't! ;)

I've never had a problem really, but i'm very cautious with overtakes.

I usually end up overtaking 1-2 cars on my way home because everyone, and i mean everyone, insists on doing 35-40mph these days. I swear it never used to be this bad!

Its people trying to save money by getting 0.0005mpg more, it hacks me off because when doing 35 - 40mph my car is actually burning more fuel, if they kept it at 50mph i'd be more happy.

I overtook a Jeep once and he caught right up to me and started making jerk off signs at me. His wife and kids were in the car also! Couldn't believe it, some people must just think you're being aggressive somehow.

Were you driving a Discovery this morning?

Maybe

I will be overtaken, and will never act like an idiot if I am, (drive up their arse ect,) only take a dab of their brakes and oops my fault - They have whiplash, massive claim, my premium is back up to what it was when I was 17, at least that's how I imagine it to be . . .
