organised religion

You don't need one, but the scientific method is misused far less often by those with science based degrees than those with GCSE or A level science education due to the different teachings you receive between the levels. It's not an absolute rule, but it's a good rule of thumb.

Indeed, but using other peoples facts to base your own opinion on a matter, does not make it 'incorrect' because you are not degree educated.

What a convincing retort, you don't fancy actually expanding it into a meaningful critique, do you?

I'm not going to sit here and decipher your entire post, because its using your own personal belief on how Science 'answers' questions.

Actually it uses the philosophy of science that requires the least faith/assumption to evaluate the purpose and meaning of science (specifically scientific instrumentalism)

If you prefer a more faith based approach to your science, that is your choice.

I find the idea of organised religion totally arrogant. I'm an atheist and whilst I don't believe in a creator, I can understand a belief in a deist God who created the universe but who doesn't involve himself in "mortal" affairs.

The idea that we are somehow special in this massive universe defies belief. As uninspiring as it is, we are tiny and insignificant on a universal scale. The arrogance that comes with believing that there is a God who specifically focuses on our species as prime beings (not taking into account religions who say that only they are right/worthy) is mind-boggling.

Funnily enough i find the utter arrogance of atheists to be a bit much in all honesty...i dont really have the time nor effort to engage with atheists but my motto in life is live and let live...if someone chooses not to believe in god or a god then fine thats their choice...if someone chooses to believe in a god or thousands of gods then again their choice. Who am i to tell them what they should and shouldnt believe in.

Religion isnt going to die out anytime soon...not in my lifetime nor my kids lifetime. Anyone who thinks it will is sadly mistaken in all honesty.

Right...

Who said I wanted a more faith based approach to Science? :p..Unless you mean in general obviously :)

Some Atheists are stupidly arrogant, there is nothing to say that there is a God, and nothing to say there isn't either (I'm not having a go here, just saying ;) )

It depends entirely on what you perceive as 'God' in all honesty.

So if there might be a god or might not be a god and we can't prove it either way then what's the argument about? It's important to only use tools or philosophies as they are intended or accept that if you are using them outwith their arena it is worth acknowledging that you are doing so as they cannot be relied on as providing truth due to the (relatively) narrow confines of their usefulness.

Atheists don't fly planes into buildings or put bombs under cars because they think they will get 30 virgins in the after life. ;)

But they do commit genocide as history shows... However it's a silly argument, people do bad things frequently and blame a variety of things including religion for doing them.

No, but they did start the soviet union and brutally repressed anyone who wouldn't abandon their religious beliefs...

If we're going to start blaming religion for stupid things against other religions, that may or may not actually be religion related, that certainly qualifies.

This is the point where people start quoting Hitler and Stalin etc... Who didn't do things in the name of Atheism, they just happened to be Atheist, which is a totally different thing. Hitler was Catholic BTW!

Who said anything about arguing? :p

I have never stated there is no God, or that there is a God...Neither have I stated whether or not I actually follow a religeon.

I'm just merely giving few points from all angles

Stalin persecuted people based on their belief. He drew the lines based on religion. That is no different whatsoever to the rest of the wars/conflicts where religion was the dividing line.

That he didn't do it in the name of atheism is irrelevant, that he did it to those who were not atheist certainly is.

Stalin got rid of religion because he thought that that would be the optimum environment for communism to work in. He discriminated against religion for the sake of communism and power, not for the sake of being atheist.

This is different to Muslim terrorists who actually commit atrocities in the name of their religion and for their religion.

Its fairly likely the vast majority only believe what they believe because their parents inflicted it on them at a young age, in my view its like a kind of child cruelty, suppressing free thought and expression.
It will take time but eventually I think the human race will shake all this off, we cant really believe this stuff forever.

Still if its your thing, give it a go, why not try a few! Islam probably wont mind if you give it a go and decide its not for you...oh wait!:D

I think you'll find that most muslim terrorism is really about land and power, just look at the motivations given by the various bombers over the years...

I agree whole heartedly! Religion has always been used as a method of control and to gain power, religion provides a convenient excuse/camouflage.

Quick edit.

It's not about land and power for a suicide bomber is it. lol. He's dead. - It's about going to heaven and getting his virgins!
