Champagne Taste and Beer Money Syndrome ?

One important thing to think about though is that cars are just a "thing" ... try not to get caught up in consumerism and wanting a bigger and better car for the sake of it. Would you rather have a 911 Turbo, or a more normal car and enjoy yourself in other ways - e.g. experiencing new stuff, more holidays, travelling the world etc.

Personally I am more into driving that cars, I can therefore get away with cheap thrills.

Surely you realise that the more expensive exotic cars are much more fun to drive than the cheapo stuff. Not exclusively, but generally.

I know how much of a thrill some small, old, cheap cars can be but I also know that they can never be compared to exotic, heavy duty, monsters as the drive is completely different. Again, not exclusively. So do you not even get the appeal slightly? No desire at all?

I'll never give up until I reach my goals, I strive to push myself toward them at every given opportunity.

Until then however I tend not to attempt to live beyond my means.

I'm sure this affects us all, the aspirational thing is what drives demand

I have always wanted a Ferrari but am miles away from being able to afford a decent one

I suffer this, as there isn't much that could truly be a car I've yearned for this side of about £50k, I'm sure that one day I may be able to achieve it, but it seems so far away - I have a child on the way, a wedding to pay for and a house to buy before I even contemplate spending any more on a car than I already have.

Sometimes I do yearn for being single and living at home though :D

Obviously, if money wasn't an issue then we could have the things we want. And its only natural that we want the things we can't have - although its often the case that once we have these things the reality isn't what we expected.

I do play lottery winners garage now and then but right now I'm very happy with my current form of transport. I really shouldn't be happy with it because it pretty much doesn't do anything I "think" I want from a car. Its not fast, its not light on its feet and it doesn't really pull girls (Unless they poor white tornado bait trailer trash) :D

I don't dream about owning cars anymore. Zondas and Ferraris don't even enter my head as I don't see myself having the lifestyle that would support such luxuries. If I did have this lifestyle, I would probably be off looking to buy yachts or something silly like that.

I really want a 997 GT3 but I don't want to live with my parents to afford to buy it.

I'm happy with the car I have atm because it's what I can afford atm. Perhaps a new M3 would curb my GT3 desire, but whats not to say I won't still hanker after one even with the M3?

Whatever I get, after a while I always seem to want to go one better.

Those cars are only unreachable if you make it that way. What is realistic or 'normal'? I'm pretty happy with my car choice at the moment but will find a way to have a v10 spyder with a bull on the bonnet by the time i'm 25.

I'm more than happy with my Impreza, probably due to the fact that I know how much I can modify it. So really the only car things I really dream about is modifying it :)

With an attitude of "I'll never be able to achieve it", then of course you wont. This is no cliché, either.

Money is indiscriminate. It does not bias colour, religion, sex or age. There is a certain amount of money available and you have the same opportunity to take that money as anyone else - it just depends on whether or not you're prepared to do it.

So if you have a dream car, go for it. There is nothing stopping you trying other than yourself.

I dont waste my time thinking of what I may never own. Whats the point?
I currently dont own a car and Im happy with that because I have no need to, even though Im a petrolhead, it makes no sense for me so I try not to think of what I can have or may be able to afford one day.

I take it you have zero ambition then?

Mistake people make is they believe they can afford said cars when financially its not really viable, then end up selling them after a year.

Not neccessarily, there's a guy who lives on the tightest, scabbiest, grimiest looking street in Brum who has his own Gallado, he's had it for years and it looks so out of place compared to the cars and houses around it. Yet the owner is happy living in a small terraced house whilst still driving his Lambo... All about personal priorities.

What a stupid thing to say.

Maybe he's just not a slave to consumerism?

I think maybe you meant to put a colon after the word "say"? Aspiring to have a nice property or large investments in the stock market, is not the same as being a slave to consumerism.

I dont waste my time thinking of what I may never own. Whats the point?

Everybody has "dream" cars, the key is making the dream realistic, and possible (even if it is a long term goal!)
