so is anyone going to take time off work for the world cup?

if you are what weeks are you thinking of?

I want to see opening game and ceremony at the very least
Friday 11th June 2010

I wont even watch any of the games...

Why even bother coming into a world cup thread if you aren't interested?

Ive got the weekend of the final booked as a holiday, cant decide between T in the park or the final, though. Boo @ bad timing.

I won't be either. I'll watch as many games as I can fit around normal day to day life. Will stay up late for England's inevitable penalty shootout defeat in the Q/F's.

I'm very interested in the world cup but I'm also a grown up man who knows it's only a game.
I don't know why, I just think taking holidays for a football tournament is a bit weird, sort of immature.

But that's just me, it's your holiday so you can do what you like with it!

Please explain why.

Holidays are time off work to be taken as you wish, and for whatever you wish.
Sounds a little fascist to be influencing what people can take holidays for.
Personally, I find it incomprehensible to take holidays to sit on a beach, but I would never berate someone for doing it.

Getting back to the OP. I can, to a certain extent, wangle my hours to allow me to see the England games. So no wasting holidays for me!

If someone told me they were taking a week off to watch every episode of Only Fools And Horses I'd think that was a bit silly as well.

Where's the talk of berating and fascism coming from?
I'm not influencing anyone to do anything, people can take holidays to do whatever they want - it doesn't mean I can't think it's weird/daft/childish/boring....

I remember when my school didn't start until 11am due to the world cup.

Aye, when it was in Korea, 2002, school opened at like 7am or something and they showed matches on a big screen in the main hall. Great teachers

Telling people that they are being immature using holidays to watch football is tantamount to berating and is certainly trying to influence.
Tell us what you take your holidays for and you'll find people that wouldn't do the same too. But maybe they wouldn't call you immature...
The OP was asking if you were taking holidays, not if you thought that people should or shouldn't.
