cruise control use more fuel?

did clarkson not use the CC in the A8 diesel he went to scotland and back in as eh said it wasn't as good as his right foot...?
He did say that.

I also get less MPG in my 2008 Focus when I use cruise control often, I even tested on staight roads with a constant speed, as soon as I enable CC the (indicated by computer) fuel consumption goes from 47mpg to 43mpg

Well i can't speak for anyone else but the tiny adjustments i just do on the steering wheel with the +/- 1mph controls.

I have that as well, but find if I need to go from 60mph to 75mph for an overtake I can judge it and slowly accelerate with my foot. Changing the cruise from 60mph to 75mph and it seems to gun it up. Plus far more control with your feet.

On long cruises I always use cruise control, but I've never got better MPG using it, the difference is usually 2-3MPG worse.

Yeah, it's fun to see how far you can go without touching the pedals :D

Last time we had a Southern meet, the New Forest one, I managed to drive basically all the way from where I picked up the A34 by Winchester to junction 1 of the M42 at Bromsgrove in the Midlands only touching the brakes once I think, when I picked the M40 up around Oxford :D

Totallt depends on the agression of the Cruise control in maintaining the speed and if it allows a bit of speed drop for short periods like hills that can make a big difference.

Eco mode on a lot of cars reduce how agressively the speed maintained.

I've had 2 cars with cruise - my current mondeo and my old Toledo. The system in the toledo was much better, felt much smoother. In the Mondeo, it's quite jerky and slow to respond to changes in incline and results in lower mpg. In the Seat, it generally gave me better, or at least equivalent mpg

I definitely get better mpg in the E60 with CC on.

About 600 miles to a tank (£70 of diesel). However, this is probably due to my heavy right foot,. If I stuck to the speed limit all the time without cruise I'd probably get similar results.

The only time I use CC is in 50mph roadworks, or on the continent. I just find I'm constantly having to cancel it or override it as the motorways are just too congested to rely on it. I think I tend to drive faster without CC on so I can't really tell if I use more fuel or not :p I did read somewhere that using CC isn't as economical but I can't remember where.

Odd, I get better MPG using cruise.

On an average run at about 70MPH using my right foot I get between 33/34 MPG. Using CC I get around about 35/36.

Not a massive difference, but it's still higher.

The new CTR has cruise? Seriously? wow, lol at honda.

 indeed, my cruise control can only be activated >50kmh (30mph)

What car?

On mine it's 20MPH but A sneaky trick if you so desire to have CC below 30MPH (quite possible on long stretches of 30mph roads in some towns) is to activate at 20MPH or above then use the steering wheel control to drop speed, it drops to 15~MPH and you can use the return to cruise speed button thereafter.
